PizzaExpress — Restaurant in City of Edinburgh

AWFUL. I ordered a delivery of pollo pesto pasta from Deliveroo. It came within good time. However, the disappointment arose upon receiving the order. I had requested cutlery and there was none in the package, this was an issue as I was at work and there was no cutlery there. I called up and told the guy but he didn’t seem to care. This was a minor issue but the biggest issue then came when tasting the food.

The first bite was horrible resulting in that first bite also being the last bite. I couldn’t believe this was the level of food I had been sent. The pasta was both rubbery and crunchy at the same time, as if the pasta had been made weeks ago and just added to the sauce. I have had this pasta at other branches and normally love it. So when I called the Morningside restaurant and explained what had happened I was shocked to find that the guy on the line didn’t really care about the feedback I was giving him. There was no empathy or sorrow in his response and I feel really let down by this Pizza Express experience.

Booked a table yesterday for lunch. Not been in a few years but decided to give it a go . Waitress was a bit rude after we had a voucher and we were just checking the terms and conditions when the waitress walked away mid conversation. The overpriced pizzas were not worth it at all. Small and sparse toppings , two other pizzas were not great either which had the egg in the middle the fiorentina both eggs were burst and a mess. Chef was drinking something and then dipping into the food toppings so not great hygiene as possibly should have the food gloves on. The restaurant was empty and still it took 45 min to get some food out. I went to the toilet on the way out and it was so bad I could not take a picture (one men’s cubicle)absolutely disgusting. Floors all dirty as with window sills. I could not see any the usual check paper with times of cleaning etc. And lastly my wife and I have been ill since the meal with stabbing pains and sickness since lunch as I had 3 bits of my wife’s pizza. Set inside an old church in Morningside, this Pizza Express has a truly unique look and feel. It's spacious and light and there's a real feeling of grandeur when you enter. The central focus point is a beautiful old church organ, under which the kitchen lies. My wife and I popped along for the first time in years to try their new gluten-free pizza (American hot for me) and dough balls, and we were not disappointed. The staff were efficient and friendly and took the gluten-free request seriously, which was reassuring. The only issue we had was that despite the restaurant being pretty empty (it was 5pm on a Wednesday), a father arrived with a crying toddler and was plonked right next to us, completely ruining the ambience. Not sure why they felt the need to do that when there were so many tables available. Will probably go a bit later in future to avoid that scenario, or just ask the staff in advance for a quiet spot I suppose! Anyway, it was a good overall experience and we look forward to...
