Food - very interesting choice of pizzas. I tried the pizza with pistachio on it, it was absolutely delicious. However the pizzas do not come with any base sauce, just cheese directly onto the bread. The pizza was very large and rich with the mascarpone cheese. The bread is very good. Authentic Italian ingredients. If you cannot finish you can request a takeaway box to take home. The chips are wonderful, really nice potatoes, crisp on the outside and soft inside - perfect! One portion is enough to share on the table. We also tried starters, the traditional rice parcels with filling inside, see board to today's flavours. Unfortunately the inside was cold as it wasn't heated up for long enough, but still very delicious. Drinks - Italian beer! Tap water for the table. Prices - very reasonable. For a pizza and beer, it came to about £15-20 per person. You can pay cash or card and you can split the bill. Atmosphere - open pizza kitchen, so you can see the chef's at work. There's also another kitchen in the back where they prepare the other food. Theme is football, with lots of t-shirts and scarfs and all the pizzas are named after football places. I am not a fan of football so this didn't appeal to me much. But besides that the decor is interesting, it's bright and a friendly space. There are not many tables and it's quite small and intimate. Service - recommend booking in advance as even on a weekday evening this place is full! The staff are fine but could do with being a bit friendlier and smiling more. As soon as we left they were also so quick to clear the table. Complimentary chocolates with the bill (but I forgot to take mine!)

The food was amazing, we ordered a vegetarian pizza and one with meat. The portion size was huge, it can be easily shared with someone. They have many vegetarian options. The tiramisu was average. The only thing that I didn’t like was the service, as soon as we sat down the server asked is if we wanted something to drink, I had not even got the chance to look at the menu. I asked for more time and they dropped by again to take food orders after 5 minutes or so while I was still looking at the menu, I felt rushed. Mind you we had made reservations for this place, before we were even seated at our table we were told we had the table for 1.5 hours. All this kind of ruined the experience, we went there for our anniversary dinner, we had mentioned that on our reservation. When you are going out to eat you don’t want to be rushed, rather you want to enjoy the food. Although, I do appreciate that while paying the bill they didn’t automatically add the 10% service charge which many other restaurants are doing these days, instead they asked us if we wanted to pay with the service charge but we declined as it was not good at all. I would probably get takeaway next time.

TLDR: This is the best pizza you're going to find in Scotland, so just go and enjoy yourself! As a pizza chef myself it's not often I feel excited or inspired about pizza. 1926 changes that. I would say that this pizza is in a class of it's own in the UK. Fully authentic and delicious Neapolitan pizza cooked with beautiful fresh ingredients and lots of love and care. Such creative uses of flavours and textures dancing on your pallette! The staff were also lovely and along with the relaxed decor this restaurant is extremely comfortable and inviting. The perfect place to enjoy such a special pizza. Absolutely fantastic job guys, today was my second visit and I intend on returning soon, dragging more and more of my friends here to try real pizza. Keep up the excellent work, and thank your chefs for making such wonderful food!

Best authentic Neapolitan pizza in Edinburgh is at Pizzeria 1926 on Dalry Road a few minutes walk from Haymarket railway station. It is one of the only establishments in UK that is certified with the "Vera Pizza Napoletana" recognition. We tried the Zielinski and the Ostigard and having recently tried a number of pizzas in Napoli, Italy, these were equally as exquisite. Gennaro, the head pizza chef, knows his stuff. The dough is fluffy with just the right level of yeast fermentation. The ingredients are all DOP and the wood fired oven runs at the right temperature. The resulting pizzas just melts in your mouth. The staff is friendly and quick to serve, and the restaurant represents the Neapolitan following for the Napoli football team. Highly recommended.

Pizzeria 1926 is awesome and bla bla bla. Why the hell are you still reading this review? Please, do yourself a favour: go there and order a Pizza. I don't care which type, just order it and eat it. And after that you will say "Aaaah! That's how a Pizza really taste." Much better, you can eat a Pizza Margherita for less than £7. No excuses, you have to go. Thank you for opening in Edinburgh guys, you made my day. Just a little advice: since I'm sure you're going to open another restaurant somewhere else in the city (because you won't be able to fit anyone else), PLEASE open a spot in front of Merchiston Campus. You would become angels for the students. UPDATE: They raised the prices a little bit, but it still worth every penny. Trust me.

We booked a table yesterday at 9pm. As soon as we arrived, the owner came at us and told us that the table wasn't ready yet. Apparently, there was a misunderstanding or something like that. The owner apologized thousands of time, but we wouldn't mind to eat a little bit later. In fact, the table was ready just 10 minutes after he apologized. He was so kind and generous that he offered us a good amount of crocché (like 8, and we were 6) and 5 beers. Apart from this SPECIAL and GREAT treatment, we had amazing pizzas. And it goes without saying that the Limoncello was really good. Thank you very much 1926, see you sooooooo soon.
