A lovely petite cafe with coffee that's truly satisfying. Despite being situated on the main street the noise level is much quieter than expected. I recommend this place for students, people working on laptops or just reading a book. Somewhere to go, if you need a change of scenery, with your coffee, cake or food also if you may. It's peaceful and I found minimal distractions. Chapter one strikes me as the type of place you would likely go alone or with perhaps just one other, for a cake and a coffee? The atmosphere is relaxed and peaceful. The coffee is of a high quality. There were was no raw milk whilst I ordered. However, I don't think that they stock it? It was oat milk I had. For a first try it was superior to my expectations. The lady who served me was polite, softly spoken and presented well. I would certainly go back in here if I were passing as it's not the "cafe" experience I expected, in comparison to other competitor's nearby. I consider chapter one a little hidden gem in this area ( not literally, it's located on Dalry road) as it's not what you would expect. I certainly didn't, Iwas more than satisfied. The pricing is fair in my opinion. If I had to pick out any negatives it would be the size of the coffee cup, it was too small in my opinion. Still delicious and worth the money. I found my chair a little uncomfortable it was very sturdy, made of hard wood, as was the table. The table I was at had two seats but the table was tiny for me alone. I believe there are toilet facilities on these premises although I did not experience the use of them so cannot confirm if they are present. They may well be downstairs which would mean there are no disabled access toilets. I hope you have a...
Read moreWe were visiting my family in Edinburgh. My relatives are not vegan. Nevertheless, we decided to invite them out to the nearest vegan café.
Upon entering the café, we were surprised that there weren't any overt references to everything being plant-based. If they continue to do this, it would be the ideal café to bring non-vegans that have a bias or prejudice against vegan food & drink (despite having never tried it).
Our relatives were reluctant to try anything.
We assured them that oat milk is one of the best alternatives to dairy milk for coffee.
They loved their lattes. We loved our cappuccinos.
The sweet treats were lovely too.
The staff were pleasant and the café is cosy.
My only negative is that the place gets very busy - to the extent where you sometimes feel like you need to finish your food and leave quite quickly.
That said, it is great to see a vegan venue become so popular and frequented by so many people.
Me and my partner came straight back here the following morning. Chapter One is reason enough to get off at Haymarket Station...
It's reason enough to travel to Edinburgh!
I would love to see more 'Chapters' in the UK.
Pros: 100% Vegan, Cosy Café, Friendly...
Read moreI had high hopes due to other very positive reviews, however the experience wasn't great. Firstly it was very expensive. I had a coffee shake which, for £7, I expected to be a decent size. So, I was quite taken aback when the portion was only a small glass (pictured). I had the chilli ch*cken sandwich, which contained cheese and chicken nugget type things. For £8.50 I was expecting good quality vegan cheese and protein, however the cheese tasted like supermarket bought (e.g. violife or cathedral city) and the nuggets were mushy. Additionally, my sandwich was left in the panini press for ages as the server forgot about it, but still served it to me. This meant that, unfortunately, the bread was extremely solid and unpleasant. I had considered getting a slice of cake, but at £4.60 a slice, I decided I didn't want to risk spending the money for further disappointment. The service also wasn't great. I really really was expecting to enjoy this, so...
