Have drank here for years - off and on. But new management style is atrocious. Bar staff literally scanning drinkers to ensure they are drinking fast enough to justify taking a space We had a couple of pints (over say 1/2 hour) sitting at a table and were asked three times âdo you want another drinkâ When clearly pints were only 1/2 drunk. Then because we werenât drinking fast enough to justify table space we were told, abruptly and rudely âok youâve got 10 minutes leftâ you seriously couldnât make it up. This also happened to the the couple behind us and god for bid the poor single bloke who had the nerve the sit at a double table. Rude. Obnoxious unwelcoming and patronising. Shame because the bar is and always has been an aesthetically pleasing little pub.
There are a lot of other better run and more welcoming places at the new town and in Stockbridge. Will not be going back. Note to staff and management - itâs a pub not an exclusive restaurant/club - treat your clients with respect not disdain.
Addition. Per the response from the manager to my original review. Iâm afraid I think you must have the wrong person. I think you must be referring to the other couple of people near the door that left in rather vocally in obvious âannoyanceâ. Time will tell if your approach to customers...
Read moreI've always found the St Vincent to be an anomaly. At certain times of the day there's only regulars drinking, and both they and the staff have a tendency to make you feel a bit unwelcome.
Go at a different time of day, and the place will be full, the regulars relegated to the corner of the bar, and the main body of the pub will be full of chatter from people from all over the surrounding neighbourhoods.
There's not a huge selection of drinks available, but if you're into ales and continental lager you should be fine.
The decor is interesting, it's dog-friendly (always a bonus as far I'm concerned) and they serve fantastic burgers. They actually run the kitchen as a separate entity, delivering gourmet burgers to your door via Deliveroo, under the guise of Feed. I can heartily recommend the burgers. The pub itself I'm not...
Read moreThis place has been through many permutations since it was my local ten over years ago, not all of them as good as the original, but itâs current incarnation has recaptured much of what I used to love about the place.
The staff are brilliant and the space is amazing --- a dark, sunken, Victorian drinking hole with windows onto street level, in the heart of the New Town --- and at last, it once again has a properly decent range of interesting beers to cover essential every taste.
In my books, this now tied with the Cumberland for the best bar between the river and George Street â- but theyâre both great, and very different, so it might be worth a few more visits just to make sure that Iâm...
