Have drank here for years - off and on. But new management style is atrocious. Bar staff literally scanning drinkers to ensure they are drinking fast enough to justify taking a space We had a couple of pints (over say 1/2 hour) sitting at a table and were asked three times “do you want another drink” When clearly pints were only 1/2 drunk. Then because we weren’t drinking fast enough to justify table space we were told, abruptly and rudely “ok you’ve got 10 minutes left” you seriously couldn’t make it up. This also happened to the the couple behind us and god for bid the poor single bloke who had the nerve the sit at a double table. Rude. Obnoxious unwelcoming and patronising. Shame because the bar is and always has been an aesthetically pleasing little pub.

There are a lot of other better run and more welcoming places at the new town and in Stockbridge. Will not be going back. Note to staff and management - it’s a pub not an exclusive restaurant/club - treat your clients with respect not disdain.

Addition. Per the response from the manager to my original review. I’m afraid I think you must have the wrong person. I think you must be referring to the other couple of people near the door that left in rather vocally in obvious “annoyance”. Time will tell if your approach to customers...

I've always found the St Vincent to be an anomaly. At certain times of the day there's only regulars drinking, and both they and the staff have a tendency to make you feel a bit unwelcome.

Go at a different time of day, and the place will be full, the regulars relegated to the corner of the bar, and the main body of the pub will be full of chatter from people from all over the surrounding neighbourhoods.

There's not a huge selection of drinks available, but if you're into ales and continental lager you should be fine.

The decor is interesting, it's dog-friendly (always a bonus as far I'm concerned) and they serve fantastic burgers. They actually run the kitchen as a separate entity, delivering gourmet burgers to your door via Deliveroo, under the guise of Feed. I can heartily recommend the burgers. The pub itself I'm not...

This place has been through many permutations since it was my local ten over years ago, not all of them as good as the original, but it’s current incarnation has recaptured much of what I used to love about the place.

The staff are brilliant and the space is amazing --- a dark, sunken, Victorian drinking hole with windows onto street level, in the heart of the New Town --- and at last, it once again has a properly decent range of interesting beers to cover essential every taste.

In my books, this now tied with the Cumberland for the best bar between the river and George Street —- but they’re both great, and very different, so it might be worth a few more visits just to make sure that I’m...

An unexpectedly awesome experience. As the sun was setting and my phone was dying, I turned the corner at the church and saw the lovely flowers and lights out front of this unassuming basement bar on the corner. Ventured in and it opened up into a vibrant, energetic pub with friendly folk and great vibes. A younger crowd but I struck up a nice conversation with an older local who recently moved back to town. Bartenders know their stuff and make some great-looking cocktails but I settled for a pint of cask ale. Great interior with some cool memorabilia. Would return without hesitation.

The Vinnie was a great drop in. Walking the historic area led us to this wonderful basement bar. The pies were good, the beer was cold and the people were friendly. I’d love to be a regular. They embrace classic rock, dogs and community. It’s a great place to meet with friends and laugh out loud or bring a date and talk deep talks. One of the top limited food service pit s we visited and a must do if you’re in the area.

I've always loved this bar, not been for a while but been gong since the 80s! It's a wonderfully kept old bar, that you can sit outside in the small but perfectly comfy little area, that even has little cushions up the steps to sit on and a serving hatch, so you don't even have to go in the bar, if you don't want to! While away the hours and watch the busy town slope by. 😉
