I cannot even begin to say how upset and disappointed I am in how the manager Ashley treated my niece and her friends when they visited.

They are all PhD students who work very hard and were studying at this pub, my niece ordered one beer, paid, and when it arrived they told her, actually, you need to show us some ID. She did not have it with her because they arrived at the pub early and were not asked for ID at the door, and unfortunately she had left it at home. This could have been easily resolved, but instead, this woman Ashley decided to HUMILIATE my niece and her friends - the waiter told my niece that she could just have a refund since she could not have the beer (which makes sense) but hours went by with no refund. Then, this woman Ashley tells my niece no, you cannot have a refund. Then, in front of all the customers, she started telling my niece, you have to leave, you don't understand Scottish law, I won't give you my name because you don't have the right to ask etc. My lovely niece is from China and I cannot help but assume that this angry, rude woman was just trying to use the fact that maybe my niece didn't understand in order to force her out of the pub without a refund. My nieces friends were also so upset and scared, Ashley physically pushed them to leave and got other members of staff involved. It was a horrible ordeal and COMPLETELY UNNECESSARY . this could have just been handled with a refund or an offer to get my niece a soft drink instead. There was NO need to be so rude, aggressive and cruel. This woman Ashley does not deserve the position of manager, and I feel sorry for the people working under her, as the waiter did try to help resolve this normally (by repeatedly saying my niece could get a refund) but Ashley decided to take out whatever problems she has on my poor niece and her friends....

Went in with my friend earlier, we are both in our 20ties and look it. She has visible tattoos which are clearly professionally done, something you can't get done professionally until you're 18 in Scotland and she also has piercings which you can only legally get done professionally at 18. Despite this, her Id was declined by the waitress. We said fine and went on our way since we had somewhere to be anyway. Came back later just for some food. The place was packed so we had to sit outside. One of the men working came over and asked for ID since he saw us in earlier to which we showed him our ID but said we only wanted food. He went back in to speak to the other waitress and came back out to tell us we can't order drinks which was fine as we just wanted food and said so. He then told us we can't order food either despite initially saying we just couldn't order drinks. Complete joke really. Another Wetherspoons in the area accepted both of our IDs and allowed us to eat so clearly just these two certain individuals having an issue. There were also people in there being served drink who were very clearly much younger than us. Also after reading other reviews we weren't the only ones who received this treatment. Maybe some training for staff is...

We visited on a Thursday night on 20 March 2025 and the service was terrible. They didn't offer to seat us and when we requested them to suggest a seat the duty manager a lady made a face and walked off saying sit wherever you want. There was only one table which was also not clean the old glasses and dishes were still there. Nobody bothered to clear it. We placed the order online and even after our food and drinks arrived the table wasn't cleaned. We requested the duty manager finally if she could clean the table and she once again made a face and walked off. It was terrible. I don't understand why a place like this would hire people like this in the service industry who would make faces to a customer and walk off. It was like she was being forced to do her work against her will. Also the glass i was served my wine in had lipstick marks on it. This place could do better with better service and any service would be better than this service. This was just terrible. Also some training is necessary I guess. We came out for a night out and it was just a horrible horrible experience. The duty manager was rude and lacked basic...

I Was in Edinburg just for one day and this restaurant, suggested by our hostel, made it perfect. I wanted to try Scottish food and bier but I was afraid of the Haggish itself, here I had the fried and smaller version accompanied by whisky sauce and I felt in love with it. I also got to taste local bier and meat which were both delicious. The surrounding is amazing and special, something unique, only thing a bit dirty which is understandable when there are so many persons but still not nice (only reason why I don’t give five). What I think was the owner is a really kind man with a huge heart. Because of the different way of ordering (through app and paying with card) my friend had troubles getting it done but we discovered it only when the food was already ordered. However, the man understood and trust us enough to let me go back to the hostel to take my card and helped us through the process patiently, without suspecting we could have gone simply away without paying. The time there became a precious memory and if I will be back in the city, I will not miss returning there. Thank you!

My family and I are staying at the Sheraton across the street from here. So we decided on a quick dinner spot nearby. Let's just say we came here a bit apprehensive due to past reviews saying food were cold. However, everything came out piping hot and within 10 minutes after placing our order. The ordering system here is super simple. You go in and choose your own table. Scan the QR code on the menu or download their app - put in your table number, choose your items and pay. After eating, we just get up and leave. No need to wait on any servers. We love it! Now the food - we got the Chicken Tikka Masala and the chicken Katsu Curry. Both came with drinks included (glass of orange and a whole can of Monster Mango Loco). Portions were fairly large and everything tasted unexpectedly delicious! And for the price? Only 20.69 GBP total which is around $25 USD - that is massively cheap!! For food and drinks? Goodness! We left full and very happy!

Last time I visited this building was to see a band called the Gaslight Anthem many years ago. It is quite impressive how the venue has been repurposed and they managed to put toilets on both levels!. I had my 15 year old with me for food and we had a couple of drinks before going to see a band in a local record store. It was very busy as it was Saturday evening and the tables were turning over too quickly to keep up with the cleaning before people cleared them themselves. The food came quite quickly and was piping hot and very tasty. Overall it was quite messy due to the amount of people and there were too many different paper menus all over the tables. I'd like to go back mid week and try sitting upstairs as I don't think this was a typical experience.
