The rudest place in Edinburgh! I am Deaf and the mother of a small Deaf son. I was hungry and wanted to go to the toilet, I was also in a hurry. I ask my husband to order food for delivery online on the street near the cafe, so that later we can eat on the train. Ordering online is more convenient for us due to our deafness. I left the stroller with my husband on the street and I ran to the toilet. After the toilet, I was caught by a gray-haired man, I think it was the manager or the owner. He began to say something rudely and poked at the menu. I explained to him in sign language that I’m Deaf and pointed to my husband, trying to tell him what he would order online. But he continued to shout something, it scared me and I ran into the street. I told my husband not to order from this cafe and we left scared, but this man was running after us with the menu in his hands and still yelling at us. My husband can talk a little, but he can't hear either, so he started to protect me. I thought about calling the police, but my husband said it's not worth spending this family vacation with the police, sorting this matter out. The husband could not stand it and said that he would pay for the toilet. He went with him and paid £5 for two people to use the toilet!!! I was in shock and it ruined our family vacation. It's terribly rude and also discriminatory towards the Deaf. I then went to the review of this cafe and I read that this was not a single case. This place is famous for its rudeness and terrible food. I hope someday this...
Read moreEntered the restaurant into a not so friendly atmosphere, did not feel welcomed at all! Was seated in the empty restaurant and ordered 2 tap waters. Waiter returned with bottled water, no manners were delivered either. Ordered food, waiter appeared to not be paying attention when ordering. Very, very odd atmosphere - no other customers and the same 2 songs playing on repeat, one of which had the lyrics “run away” which I wish I had done nearer the start of the visit. Food arrived and was absolutely vile. I had the carbonara which tasted like soap and frankly I almost vomited after tasting it. My friend had the chicken burger which was unseasoned and rubbery, along with the stale roll and cheap chips, made for an awful experience. When it came time to pay, we were told that their card machine was broken, just like that on the spot. The waiter, being not a brilliant actor, made it obvious through his behaviour that he already knew this was either an issue or something he was planning on saying. We were then asked if we could pay cash which we couldn’t and then we’re questioned about where we come from?! Absolutely unacceptable behaviour and almost as disgusting as the food.
Save yourself the pain and do...
Read moreThis is restaurant is a "cash only" scam masquerading as a legitimate business. Although they will serve you your food and beverages (which should be the bare minimum), the levels they'll stoop to to lie to their patrons is quite disgusting.
Like a number of other people, we were told that their card reader was broken when we were trying to pay for our food. It's very shady to bring this up as you're trying to pay. Any legitimate business would notify you before you even sat down. And don't even suggest that the machine just happened to go down while we were eating our food. If that was even the case, then clearly the owner wasn't too concerned about their card machine being down because he had time to step outside for multiple smoke breaks. Even then he could have notified us any point that the machine was down. It's apparent that this business makes it a point to prey on unsuspecting tourists.
Avoid this business if you're not looking to have a black mark on your otherwise nice visit to Edinburgh.
By the way, if the owner replies to this review with a nasty response, then you'll know that I've spoken the truth. Check out the rest of my reviews, none of the others have received any sort of...
