We stumbled upon Hata during a visit to Edinburgh in 2021, and it's become our local haunt since moving back to the city. We’re definitely enjoying having it practically on our doorstep.

Why Hata? Well, for starters, they've nailed the coffee game. It's consistently top-notch, and their spread of treats is a little feast for the eyes and the belly. (Fair warning: the caramel tart is highly addictive.) 🙂 There's always a variety of GF/DF goodies, and they also provide a selection of delicious lunch options. Additionally, the place has a nice array of coffee beans, tea, candles, and some funky merch, should you need to stock up or grab a quick gift.

Rain or shine (definitely more rain in Scotland), Hata always offers a warm and cosy refuge. The atmosphere is spot-on, making it the perfect place to kick back with a cuppa or get some work done. (The downstairs space is great for the latter.) What really makes it our favourite café, though, is the team. The baristas are always friendly and up for a wee chat, no matter what time of day you pop in.

Whether you're after a caffeine fix or a chill spot in the heart of Edinburgh, you can’t go...

TL;DR - Nice drinks, tasty small dishes, friendly staff and cool vibes. Very limited seating!

There is a good selection of drinks, with some more unusual options on top of the usual coffee shop fare. There's a nice selection of tasty cakes to choose from too, as well as porridges, sandwiches and other small dishes. The coffee was great, and the sandwiches delicious. The honey cake was lovely too. Prices were okay - sandwich a little expensive perhaps, but nothing excessive.

Inside there are only a couple of tables, so probably worth booking ahead or taking away. The interior has a pleasant, cosy and stylish vibe, surrounded by indoor plants. There's a shelf with some items for sale too including coffee, bamboo products, mugs etc. The staff were friendly and attentative and added to the...

The best porridge in Edinburgh. I fell in love in this place right away, that I had to squeeze in two visits in the span of my short vacation in Edi. Tried both spooky porridges (during Halloween time), both extremely delicious! And coffee was also very lovely (cortado). The only thing is that it was a bit cold downstairs, though that might be a me-problem as there was a lower temperature than what I'm used to, in all coffee shops I went to here. A definite must-go for breakfast people.

Absolutely wonderful cafe in Edinburgh! The food is so fresh, unique and delicious! My husband and I are staying nearby in an Airbnb and we’ve been to this cafe twice already! The porridge at breakfast was really the most amazing we’ve ever had! The toppings are so creative and lush! We had sandwiches at lunch today that were gorgeous - the chicken curry sandwich was absolutely stunning! The salads were nice too. I wish I could live next door to this cafe!
