This restaurant left me with no sense of joy or satisfaction after the meal—only disappointment and frustration. Every aspect of the experience fell short.
The scallops were sour—oddly so—and the texture was just awful, like they were overcooked and under-thought at the same time. Every single dish seemed to have this strange, overpowering acidity that made no sense
The beef tartare was completely tasteless, offering none of the richness or seasoning you'd expect.
The pheasant was unbearably dry, and the accompanying sauce was a terrible match. The truffle flavor, prominently mentioned on the menu, was nowhere to be found. The fish was equally underwhelming, bland and lacking any hint of the fresh, delicate seafood flavor it should have had. Instead, it was once again overwhelmed by an inexplicable sourness.
The prices are outrageous for what you get—nearly £100 for two courses for two people. The food simply does not justify that cost. The restaurant’s interior looks fine at first glance, but the seating arrangement is atrocious. Tables are packed so tightly that neither the guests nor the servers can move around comfortably, and the dim lighting makes everything feel even more cramped and awkward.
It suppose to be the birthday date with my girlfriend, but despite mentioning the occasion when making the reservation, the restaurant made absolutely no effort to acknowledge it—not even a small gesture. All we were left with was bad food, an awkward atmosphere, and a bitter memory of what should have been a joyous day.
This was not just a disappointing meal—it was an infuriating one. With so many excellent restaurants in Edinburgh offering far better food and atmosphere for lower price, there is absolutely no reason...
Read moreI have had the opportunity to dine at this restaurant on two occasions, and during my last visit, I noticed that it was no longer recommended by Michelin. However, it became apparent that there have been significant improvements since my previous visit.
Our meal consisted of belgnet, ravioli, veal, sea trout, lamb, guinea fowl, and two vegetarian sides. The starters and main dishes were all exceptionally delicious. However, the two vegetarian sides left much to be desired and did not seem to justify their cost of £7 each. The final subtotal for our bill came to £116, which I found to be quite reasonable.
One notable aspect that could be improved is the service. It appeared that only two waitresses were managing the entire restaurant, and although they put forth considerable effort, the service was somewhat lacking. This might be alleviated by having additional staff on hand.
It was also a bit disappointing to learn that seating in the fancy window-side area is not available on a first-come-first-served basis; instead, it must be reserved in advance.
Lastly, it was disheartening to discover that the restaurant no longer serves rabbit meat, which was once a signature dish. This change was quite surprising and left me...
Read moreI will start the review by saying the food here was quite good in regards to flavors. The wine was equally delicious. However it was perhaps one of the top two worst restaurant experiences of my life because of the chef.
The kitchen sent out a sole fish with about 1/4 of the fish missing. I ate the front half and when i flipped the fish over , 1/2 of the other side of the fish was missing.
I sent the fish back to the kitchen, and rather than apologize, the chef came out insulted me and accused me of lying about the fish. The chef is rude unprofessional and unhinged.
It is a shame, but i was so offended i just stood up and walked out. And i have never done that anywhere in the world.
I can not in good conscience recommend this restaurant and reward the behavior of such an unprofessional and clearly mad chef.
Do not go here even if the food is good, if you have an issue you will be insulted rather than accommodated.
Updated: i am so happy the chef owner responded; see the response from the chef below. That is what you can expect at this restaurant. Hilarious and so beyond logic… it’s like a faulty...
