I used to love coming here when it first opened. It had a great menu with something for everyone, the cocktails were (and still are) great. But lately it seems to have gone downhill. Was there recently and there were several problems. Firstly, we had to ask for the inner back door not to be proper open by staff, as the outer back door was constantly open with smokers streaming in and out. So with the inner door open all I could smell was the stench of people smoking. Not good when you are trying to eat. Second problem was the non-alcoholic drinks selection. I had a hot chocolate, which was nowhere to be found on any menu, and I can see why. When it arrived it tasted like someone had waves some chocolate powder at hot water and called it hot chocolate. There was little to no taste to it at all. And as there are only 4 non-alcoholic cocktails, the choices for alcohol free drinks are very limited. Next up, the food. I like to look at the menu before going anywhere as it makes it easier to know in advance. Which normally works well. But upon arrival, I found that half the options had been taken off due to a menu change that was still over a week away. And what was left on the menu was well overpriced for what it was. Almost £9 for two sliders. And that is all you get for that price. Two mini buns. Two mini burgers. A tiny bit of salad. None of the meals came with sides, pushing a reasonable priced meal out way into overpriced and expensive. Then there was the ordering. Our waiter didn't have the one basic piece of equipment all wait staff should have: pen and paper. So he had to take a couple.orsers, go out them in, come back, take some more, go out them in, and so on. Then repeat with the drinks. So yeah, overall, the company made the evening. The food and venue were a disappointment. Which is a shame, as it used to be such a lovely...
Read moreThis was one of the worst place I've eaten in my life. Service and food were terrible. In fairness to the main waiter, he was trying his best but was too busy.
We were kept waiting for food and this was left within eye sight on the kitchen heaters for 5-10 minutes. We only got this due to confirmation of the drinks order being delayed. Once we got the food, my potatos were soggy due to the sauce sitting in it for so long. My prawns were over cooked in a garlic / chili sauce which numbed any flavour from the dish (I like hot dishes but not this hot with fish)
We'd nearly finished our food and decided to cancel the drinks order. The waiter returned to inform us that they'd been prepared. We accepted this and a waited their arrival.
When the cocktails eventually arrived, my friends glass was clearly not washed and was a slapped into a wine glass. It looked like someone poured a flat drink into a used glass. It honestly looked horrible. This was returned and never replaced. The drink i ordered was a non alcoholic mojito. Another of my friends ordered an alcoholic version. On arrival, I was told it "should" be the non alcoholic version, when I queried this, I was informed to drink it and see if it was alcoholic.
The bill was the quickest thing that arrived to the table during night with a 25% reduction. However, while I was complaining, I noticed the bill was incorrect! There was an extra drink included and they didn't remove the drink which was returned and not replaced. The bill was further reduced but our night and dinner was ruined.
I'm being too kind with one star. Avoid if you want to...
Read moreI used to be a regular before lockdown and I must say I was a bit sad to see such drastic changes. I understand things cannot be 100% as they were pre-COVID but I was quite dissapointed I have to say.
We absolutely loved the Barologist in the past and loved the food and the atmosphere. Sadly we were all very disappointed with the changes. Your choice is now something called a small plates menu where you are given extremely overpriced and minute portions. We ordered the crispy pork belly, salmon, chicken sliders and the card. The cod was tiny and nothing special. Apparently, the chicken sliders were tasty but again just very small and all the pork belly was very tasty again the portion sizes were tiny so not what we were expecting as we were all very hungry and we are not aware of this new menu. We also ordered stringy fries, patatas bravas and sweet potato fries. The stringy fries arrived and both portions were like a plate full of soggy mush. The bravas and sweet potato fries were good. I think for us the worst was when we ordered a garlic and Parmesan flatbread which cost £6.50 and when it arrived the only way I can describe it is like a crisp bread or something similar to a poppadum with some cheese at garlic on top for £6.50! It was dry and quite frankly not even worth £1. We decided not to have desserts and went elsewhere; still feeling a bit hungry. It’s so very sad to see what we thought was such a great place with a great menu before change so drastically.
Unfortunately we will not be...
