Easily recognisable as Thai food from scent and taste, which is already quite an achievement for a Thai restaurant in Scotland (or indeed Europe). Seabass from the Wok section of the menu and the red curry duck were delicious and proper spicy hot.
Tamarind prawns did not hit the mark for me despite decent quality main ingredients - more like a generic soupy pretend-Chinese sweet-and-sour dish than Thai tamarind prawns - and the vegan spring rolls my partner ordered specifically for the plum sauce came with sweet chilli sauce instead of plum.
A little more attention to description of dishes on the menu would be good (e.g., Phad Med Mamuang and Phad Kapao have identical descriptions). And I wish they had more Thai salad options besides pork and beef (e.g., squid or veg - although I appreciate that those might not be popular enough to justify).
Overall this place is definitely a winner, head and shoulders above the not-so-stiff local competition: easily the best south-east Asian food I've had in Scotland in the 4+ years I've been living here. It's a fairly new place so I hope they'll keep it going and improving.
PS. We had home delivery pre-ordered in the afternoon for early evening delivery. Arrived...
Read moreI think Thai food has the hottest competition in Edinburgh right now, and Ed's is probably tippy top of the mountain. You can tell from the minute you walk in to collect you are gonna have a great meal tbh, the wonderful lady that served me was possibly the friendliest person I've ever been greeted by in a takeaway, anywhere in the world. She even offered me a sample of some small Thai style savoury pastry that was absolutely delicious. A top restaurant welcome, from a tiny takeaway. Seriously classy and actually quite heartwarming in a world where few in hospitality seem to genuinely care about the experience they provide anymore.
The rest of the food was devine. Standouts from the standouts were the Tom Yum soup - INCREDIBLE. I could drink litres of the stuff, and probably will sooner rather than later. My main was a King Prawn ChooChee, which was again just out of this world good. My mouth is watering again thinking about a meal I finished an hour ago. Everything else was spot on, delicious and generous.
If you are in Edinburgh and looking for Thai food to impress the toughest palate, this is the place to be.
10/10 & thank you to the lovely team for making my Fiances Birthday that bit...
Read moreI had dinner at the The Thai Kitchen and the food was just heavenly! I ordered the Red curry with crispy duck and coconut rice. It has a nice blend of spices and flavors. I was surprised with all the fruits in the dish: lychee, pineapple, grapes, cherry tomatoes. These actually blended well with this dish, I enjoyed every single bite and finished everything off my plate. I also ordered the King Prawn Spring Roll which was crunchy on the outside and oozing with flavors on the inside. I talked to the owner/chef/cook, a very nice, pleasant, welcoming and sweet Thai lady. She said she personally buys the ingredients and even imports the fresh noodles from Thailand. High quality food, very authentic Thai flavors. I am just visiting in the area but I would definitely come back when I get the chance. This one is a winner in my books. Great value for my money. Seating is limited but I didn't mind waiting as I was anticipating great food so it was...
