This is a well located hotel, in a nice area full of good restaurants, close enough but no in old town. usually I like boutique hotels. The decor in the lobby and public areas was a bit over the top even for me, but the room itself was not anything crazy. We booked a mini suite and it was spacious with high ceilings. The staff was super nice and very responsive. good water pressure, good bed linens, comfy bed. Our stay however was not what I call a room meant for comfort. it’s like whomever chose furnishings never actually stayed there themselves. Right off numerous times my husband bruised his hips severely because the little side tables by either side of the bed are actually several inches taller than the bed. have not come across this odd height and the corners are sharp! At the end of the king bd there are 2 very blocky chairs. And across that is a low but very sharp cornered huge impractical coffee table. We ended up having to move it against the wall because there was very little room to walk to get to the bathroom. Then the 2 wardrobes, 1 had completely ineffective use of space w most shelves occupied w tea maker, trays for cups, small fridge which was basically already filled w for sale items. So this entire wardrobe was of little use however it had some very shallow drawers that squeaked horribly but could possibly put away some Sox there. Unfortunately the second large wardrobe had a door that could not fully open due to placement and it was so dark inthat part of the room that unless one had a flashlight you could never see anything in it (no light inside the wardrobe and the barely adequate floor lamp did not have a long enough cord to get near. Then they had a horrid little disk/mini table. It had claw like pedestal feet that extended really far, causing it to constantly bang our toes until I finally dragged it to a distant part of the room away from any walk areas. The worst part was the lighting. It was very temperamental and the switches are at bad locations. To enter the room and turn on main light the switches were hidden behind very tall bedside lamps that blocked the switches and wobbled each time. There was not a way to move them. The bathroom mirror light had a bulb that burned out and despite knowing this on day 1, it was never replaced. The numerous switches for the bathroom lights (a complex set of dimmers) refused to work. The gal at front desk messed w it for a while, finally getting it to partly work but only that night. Most of the time the showers were in super dim light (dark grey tiled walls, floor and ceiling, so pretty dark overall, but thankfully I did not need to shave my legs yet as this would be simple not possible. Miraculously on my last morning, mid shower suddenly, the lights came back on fully, no idea why but was happy to have light. the bed was actually comfortable and it was quite (we checked out fri am, so I was not very worried about noise from night club.|Breakfast was a shocker. First morning we looked forward to it, as I was happy it was not a buffet but off the menu. I got the full grill breakfast. OMG, it was horrendous. Everything greasy, swimming in oil. Is haggis supposed to fall apart into soggy mess and squirt oil? Eggs were rubbery and over cooked. Nothing seasoned at all. Could not even identify what some triangle that was maybe like a pancake - stale, zero taste. I took 1 bite of the sausage. It tasted like it been sitting around for days, no flavor, I could have bitten into tofu or meat, could not tell what it even was, hard, seriously a microvawable sausage would have tasted better. We were actually excited to take a bite of plain white toast but, no, tasted dry, like cardboard. We debated the next day if we could face another try. Decided to order poached eggs and ask for no oil on anything, got smoked salmon and spinach w it and at least next day this was edible. I would not call it tasty, but at least it was ok. There was zero fresh fruit on the menu or any healthier breakfast options. Extremely long wait for service at breakfast, could not understand how a hotel of this caliber can serve such food and assumed our first meal was maybe prepared by someone other than a chef. It was not just my breakfast that was this bad but my husbands who ordered something totally different, his was equally disappointing. We were actually went to an early lunch, so not a big deal. Definitely do NOT include breakfast option when booking the hotel. . I am not taking off a lot of points for this but really hotel needs improvement here for sure. I did not try any other meals at this hotel since so many good restaurants around and did not want to risk it. I realize the other things like where light switches are can’t be changed but this just is not a user friendly easy comfortable space to stay designed by someone who actually selected furniture to fill space rather than for comfort and sooo many little misses that are not creating a comfortable stay. I also really hope they improve overall lighting. Lamps by the bed can be small and modern and actually provide reading lights. The floor lamp, barely throws off light, has a short cord, tripping hazard. bathroom lighting needs an overhaul. Fluffy robes and slippers are a nice touch, as well as a powerful hairdryer w a cold shot button. However no outlet in bathroom for dryer, no long extension cord to get it close to the mirror, so just little...
Read moreMyself and my partner were lucky enough to book this hotel just a few days before we were due to arrive as we secured last minute tickets to Oasis (woop woop!), with it being so last minute, we stayed in a Classic Double as this was the only room type left.||Room review:|I had no idea what to expect from the room as there wasn’t much pictures of our room type on the website so I was pleasantly surprised when I opened the door to find PINK decor (if you know me you’ll know I would have been in my element with this). For a full room tour, check out my reel on Instagram - @sls_seasipsavour||The room was spacious and had a decent sized wardrobe, HUGE bed, coffee machine, TV, great selection in the chargeable mini bar and complimentary water at each side of the bed.||The bathroom was also a decent size and I love how the shower section was a big wet room. The bathroom with stocked with Laura Thomas co. toiletries (these were lovely!!) and the room also had robes and slippers for us both which was a nice touch!||We were on a 1st floor room, so we did hear a little bit of music from downstairs, but it's only because we were awake at the time after getting back from the concert. It didn't bother us in the slightest and the corridor was super quiet so that was a bonus.||The hotel was in a great location and wasn't super crowded or noisy in the surrounding streets. It's within walking distance from the Castle, Train station, St James' Quarter and the tram station on princess street. If you're looking for great shopping, plenty restaurants and bars nearby - this is a great base to stay!||I had seen a few reviews mentioning the decor in a negative light and I found it to be the complete opposite - I LOVED it! It was vibrant, fun and inviting. We did head down to the bar before the concert to have a few drinks and managed to get a seat at the bar, the staff were great and the service was quick considering it was so busy! It really is a place for everyone, we are in our mid 20's and found there was a huge range of ages in there in the afternoon. Next time we will have to come back and try the food - it looks great!||TOP TIP - if you stay at the hotel during the fringe festival, you get free wristbands which give you access to cheap cocktails and food from selected bars and restaurants...
Read moreAvoid!!!!…. Went to this restaurant during a hen weekend. The place is lovely inside, if a bit dark. It’s a bit weird because it’s a bar too there are people just hanging out in the corridor entrance area. Strange DJ pumping out tunes in the middle of the diners too. I think it needs to stick to being a restaurant. Anyway I ordered a starter of Serrano Ham and manchego croquettes; the ham was just a slice under the cheese croquettes, no pea shoot salad and no Aioli dressing which it stated it came with. It was rather disappointing and not what I would expect given their prices. Next course was Greek chicken skewers. The chicken was cooked to within an inch of it’s life, dry, unseasoned and tasteless, sat on a flatbread, no Greek salad, just a few sparse lettuce leaves with a tiny pot of very dry and tasteless houmous, again all unseasoned, bland and this plate of food was actually inedible! I feel sorry for the staff as they had to put up with my complaint, how anyone can actually say this is good food is beyond me? If the Golden Arches did restaurant food, this would be it! As an alternative I tried the Thai green curry; this was again very bland and unseasoned and just tasted like plain chicken in a bowl of cream, with the tiniest hint of coconut, no seasoning and again inedible. Jasmine rice! This was a ball of, only one word to describe it… ‘slop’ no rice grains visible, if I’d have thrown it at the wall it would have stayed there indefinitely. I can count on two fingers the amount of times I have complained about food, but for the prices they charge this is totally unacceptable. It was £38 for steak, a load of fries and a handful of dry rocket! (Check out their own photos) At the end of the night they still tried to add my meal to the bill and were quickly asked to remove it, I left without eating any main. £300 bill for 7 people, three of whom left a majority of the food on the plate at the end. Surely they need to look at themselves and wonder why plates still have food on them! This bar/restaurant is trying to be something it is not….a high end establishment. Not recommended in the slightest and I won’t be returning. It would be no stars if I could...
