Cheery chappy serving, but the food was unbelievably disappointing. Group of 7, Sunday lunchtime and only another couple of people in, so the kitchen wasn’t busy. Fish and chips overcooked and dry, steak sandwich cold, pasta came at least 10 mins after everyone else’s, but the fish and steak had to be replaced, so no one eating at the same time anyway! Two of us had the ‘main’ meal of chicken and chorizo skewers, I almost laughed out loud! The chorizo, cut up, must have been the size of a cocktail sausage to begin with, and the chicken, between both skewers, was honestly not even one chicken thigh! They were like bite size skewers at a buffet! In a way a blessing, because they were neither cooked or seasoned well, and were also cold. So dry it was a fight to get the meat off the cocktail stick sized skewer! They came with chips, ‘salad’, consisting of a pile of lifeless iceberg lettuce, no more than one cherry tomato chopped up and a few slices of cucumber, undressed or seasoned, oh, and best not forget the spoonful of hummus. I honestly don’t think any self respecting chef, who can cook and loves food, would serve up these embarrassingly bad meals! If the person/people who sent this out of the kitchen are chefs, well I’m in the wrong job, because I cook better than this every day of the week! Obviously just a George Street chain, who thinks mugs will come in and eat food hardly edible for dogs, just because of the location. Sorry we were the mugs today, but never again, and would advise any friends to never go here. If you can’t cook, maybe just stick to drinks, instead of serving up barely edible rubbish. Also note, despite sending back 2 meals (should really have sent them all back) and telling staff we were all disappointed at the end, nothing discounted from the bill. Just all round disappointment. Please don’t waste...
Read moreCity centre location. Good range of cocktails (which were on offer at 50% off at the time if visit). You can order on their app and they will deliver your food/drinks to your table. However, on saying all the positives there's also an array of negatives. The app ordering is poor. If you can actually get it to work, it can take a while before you receive your order. We waited 1.5 hours for ours to arrive. You can still order at the bar but the number of staff serving at the bar is greatly limited compared to the number of staff seen (in our case only 1 was serving at the bar, the other 6 were "doing something" else). In busy times (we arrived at 3pm on a Saturday) this can still take a while to be served and there's no formal way of waiting. We waited 40 minutes and watched a couple of times people come straight in and be served. So it depends on who catches the server's eye as to who's next. Unfortunately the management aren't much better. They have a casual approach to issues and seem to be more concerned about getting as much money from whoever as possible. The tables we were sat at, had plates which had never been cleared away from previous customers. In addition to these plates and glasses from those customers. At no point were any of our own glasses etc cleared. Which meant more and more build up of clutter at the tables. On our last order at the bar, it had become fairly clear that they were running out of glasses for each type of drink.
Although I can't blame the staff as such for this, it does go to show that the management do not have a control of the situation and customer service clearly isn't a priority to them.
Based on this experience, it is unlikely that we will return to this establishment but may go back to their "sister" location (of the same name) at the Omni Centre (which is 5 minutes walk from the...
Read moreAvoid, company need to review their recruitment. Especially with aggressive people in charge (apparently his name was Ross) who got extremely defensive and intimidating when we asked for the complaints procedure and to the speak with the manager.
We had a really disappointing experience at Slug & Lettuce Edinburgh, george street. We had booked a cocktail-making class with a group but arrived late While the staff had kindly accommodated the rest of the group, which we were very thankful for, when my friend and I arrived, the person in charge was immediately rude and dismissive and refused to serve us for no valid reason.
We didn’t expect to join the class at that point—we only wanted to have a drink with our group. Instead of handling the situation professionally, they escalated things and even threatened to call the police when we simply asked to speak to a senior staff member. We were not aggressive or causing any issues, just trying to understand why we were being refused service. From that moment on, the staff wouldn’t even engage with us rationally, it was totally unnecessary.
We had an excellent time in Edinburgh, but I would strongly suggest avoiding this place. It was the only venue we visited where the staff were openly rude and unwelcoming. Do not recommend unless you want to be...
