Tucked away, not far from the train station across from the health care centre is a council-run establishment. Don't let the word "council" put you off though, it boasts a warm and welcoming atmosphere. One of the standout features of The Leopard is the food. Unlike any spoons, this is very much a pub first, but the food outdoes the majority of places that specilise in food. The pub's events calendar is another reason to love this place. Pub quizzes on Mondays and pool team gatherings on Tuesdays create an engaging environment for patrons. But what truly sets The Leopard apart are the diverse events that take place here. From live music nights to themed parties, there's always something exciting happening, ensuring that every visit is a unique experience. The crowd it pulls in consists of a wonderful mix of individuals of all ages. It's a laid-back setting where people from various backgrounds come together, forming a diverse and approachable community. The patrons here are more than just regulars; they're friends, and the pub acts as a hub that connects people, fostering a sense of belonging. In summary, The Leopard Pub is a true gem in the community. Its delightful food, engaging events, and diverse crowd make it a standout...
Read moreWas there primarily to see a local band. Standard venue space with less than average sound system and an in house engineer that clearly didn't care that there was a band doing its best on stage or that the punters had paid £10 to get in. Lighting was equally under whelming.
Don't stairs looked like an ordinary pub and seemed nice enough.
Looking at some of the bands that had played the venue last month it seems to have carved a reasonable name out for itself on the live scene and I applaud venues keeping the live scene alive. Doorman at the front was courteous as you would expect but aren't always so points for that too.
The local kids were clearly enjoying the space and the bands and it was good to see the two local bands supporting each other. This should not be viewed as a negative review or at least it isn't intended that way but for £10 I would have hoped for good sound and a proficient I house engineer on the sound desk that actually helped and maybe even...
Read moreDrinks are inexpensive but the place is lacking in atmosphere. The best reason to visit this public house would be for the live music. There is a slight problem with this though, the concert room is upstairs and this is a very old building with a steep and narrow staircase. For people with mobility issues this is a major problem. Once upstairs though the room is cosy and perfect for the smaller crowd. With a limit of 150 people I have yet to see the venue filled, although I have always experienced a good atmosphere. Saw Ian mcnabb here a few years back with a crowd of approx. 40 people and yet it was one of the best concerst I have ever attended [out of 100s] due to the size and the fact that acts tend to relax a lot more in these old venues. In conclusion: Not a great bar for drinking but a really good one...
