Travelled from bradford as it was recommended to me by a friend. I was so disappointed by the buffet.
I'll start with what I liked from the various dishes. The pork bao buns were lovely, really fluffy and delicious, and I would definitely recommend these. The sushi was delicious, especially the tuna sushi, which was fresh and yummy. That's it. From the huge selection of dishes, these were the only two that I actually enjoyed.
What I didn't enjoy was the prawns. Why, why on earth were all the prawns in your resteraunt served with shell on? By the time you removed the shell, you've removed all the flavour from the prawns, which was on the shell! I can't describe how much it irritated me that i was removing any seasoning on the prawns every time i removed the shell. The sweet and sour chicken was so sour that there was no sweet to balance it. It tasted like vinegar had been poured all over it. The duck was so dry that i couldn't eat it. The pork spare ribs were so dry it's like they had been sat there forever. The rice noodles were flavourless. The fried rice was the worst fried rice I've ever eaten, just no flavour at all, and I've eaten a lot of fried rice over the years. The rice was hard, and pair that with no flavour it was just awful. The steak they made on the grill for you was flavourless, and it was doused in oil, if only they added some marinade, even salt and pepper. The prawn crackers were stale, which made me gag. The beef in black bean sauce was okay. Again, not much flavour. The chefs must be afraid of seasoning at this point, I thought.
To top this off, the staff were arguing at the counter. A woman and a man were having an argument over cleaning the tables, and it just made me uncomfortable being right next to them.
The toilets were horrendous. It's like they googled the worst bathroom fitter and got him in to do the job. 1 tap was hanging off the wall and didn't work. The sealant was up the mirror, and even the ladies who came into the toilet next to me were talking about the state of the toilet. The chairs were falling apart, and the leather was damaged. The tables were so scratched and dented, and it made it feel really unclean. A few times, we came back to the table, and the old plates were there, and staff weren't clearing them as fast as they should have been. It wasn't overly busy, so staff should have been more on the ball.
Desserts weren't bad, just not the best. They were very basic, and my bavarian slice dessert was still very much frozen in the middle and couldn't be eaten. The mango cheesecake was not very nice, in my opinion.
I don't recommend this place in all honesty and I wouldn't go back again and waste money. For £56 I could have ordered from the local Chinese and had a better experience.
Just to add, the mocktail was diabolical, filled with ice and two sips later it's finished. Couldn't even drink enough of it to really feel the flavour. Just packed with ice so they can save as much money...
Read moreUpdated review . I've been a few times recently and most of the below still applies. Availability of plates and cutlery seems an issue although to be fair it's only a few minutes wait before more is available. On the refillable soft drinks I do wish they'd have some choice for those that don't like artificial sweeteners.
Desserts are disappointing but they have to save money somewhere I suppose.
My recent peeve with this place is less to do with the place and more so some customers. Parents if you take children here please keep them.under control and teach them manners. Many children run riot here and parents forget parenting.
Budget for around 25 pound per head (aug '23) if not using the bar and you'll be about right .
Great food, good experience when no children are about.
First time I've been here. Fixed price all you can eat Pan Asian buffet. food chiices from following genre countries , British, Japanese, Chinese, Mexican. All the food was excellent with good selection of starters, mains and sweets. Unfortunately the cutlery washer was playing up when we visited which left everyone looking for clean cutlery and staff weren't so good at bringing it when it became available. Again food quality was excellent. We were in a large party of 23 , and were asked to order our drinks personally at the bar. This was not a problem however the table service would have been more acceptable. Removal of dirty plates and drinks glasses was not quite as slick as it could be. When we came to pay we found a small (and it was quite small , circa £1.50) had been added to the bill. What made this quite annoying was a) there was no mention of it when paying b) it is only added automatically to parties of more than 7! Remember above, we had to get our own drinks as there was so many of us.
Bar is fairly priced albeit limited selection of lagers and no bitter. Good spirits selection. Wine was £13 to £20 per bottle. They're happy for you to take your own celebration cakes too.
Overall atmosphere was quite noisy but this is a large buffet style place probably with around 300 covers so that's to be expected, and we attended on a busy Saturday evening. Not too noisy however.
This place is accessed via escalators and lifts from the French gate centre. Looking at the layout wheelchair access would be good around the whole layout, however a wheelchair seated person would struggle at the bar and probably not able to serve themselves at the buffet due to the height/layout of the buffet.
Overall though absolutely worth what you pay for the food (even with the service charge). Service could be slightly better in terms of clearing. Probably worth pre booking in peak periods, as we noted several groups waiting at the entrance. But they do provide a small waiting...
Read moreAll you can eat. More like hardly anything you can eat! I was told if I came across a food that didn't have a tick next to 'gluten' it DEFINITELY didn't have any gluten in it. I was told this twice by members of staff. I showed the staff the garlic bread which was labelled gluten free knowing full well it wasn't! I looked around and there was other items saying gluten free which I was skeptical about and items which I know usually don't contain gluten saying that they did! My mum asked one of the cooks at the counter which foods were gluten free. She replied with a suprised look saying all the food is cooked with gluten apart from the vegetables! I was told a manager couldn't see me as they were assigned to tables..not sure what that meant!...but they will come and see me when im back at my table. Anyway I was really hungry so I put some salad and fruit on my plate and sat down to eat. A member of staff came round and asked if everything was okay. I said no and reminded them that I could hardly eat anything as I wasn't going to risk being poorly having zero trust in their ability to label up properly. I was out with my family for my nephews birthday and had to seat and watch everyone tuck in. The manager came to see me, which took 20 minutes! He said he was so long because he went to check the labels and there was a tick on the garlic bread it was just very faint as it had rubbed off a bit. I argued this as I know full well there was no tick, not even a faint one. I looked at the label a few times showing members of staff, who also saw no tick! The manager argued back which I think was rediculous as he was lying out of his back teeth. He didnt apologise and continued instead to tell me he had checked all the labels and made sure all the ticks were NOW clearly visible. I had zero trust in his words or ability to manage the situation so I left my family and went to subway, who by the way do a lovely gluten free sub! Not hard is it. Or apparently it is! The only thing good about the place was the waiting staff who were very understanding and tried to help me as much as they could. Appauling management. Do not visit if you have any dietry...
