Real Italian Food, cooked with care and attention and served in a friendly, homely environment.
Ristorante EM was on my list of restaurants to visit before I arrived in Exmouth, so having a chance to book a table there was a delight.
On arrival we were quickly shown to our table and made comfortable. From that moment on the experience was a real joy. The staff could not have been more attentive. They willingly discussed the food with us and talked about the options we had.
The menu, reflecting both the Northern and Central regions of Italy reflected in the birthplaces of the owners, has all the best of Italy.
We started with bread dipped in delicious Olive Oil and sharp, tasty Balsamic Vinegar.
For the pasta course we had Spaghetti aglio olio peperoncino, a simple sounding dish, but one that takes care and attention to get the balance right and to keep the spaghetti from getting soggy. They managed this so well, and Linguine alla puttanesca another delight.
For mains my partner had Costolette d'agnello, lovely oven cooked lamb chops with the garlic and rosemary flavour running through them. I opted for Petto danatra allarancia, this was no duck in orange sauce of British horror menus, but a delicately cooked piece of duck in a sauce made from the juice, pulp and pith of the orange. Using the whole orange made the sauce a wonderful mix of sweet and sour. I would certainly have this again. A sign of the attentive nature of the waiting staff was the arrival of some more bread for me to mop up the delicious sauce - what a treat. We had Patate al forno and Insalata Mista for sides which went well with both our meals. The Patate al forno were so nice we ordered a second helping.
For dessert my partner had Crostata Di Cioccolata con gelato which he loved, the restaurant, ever an example of customer service, had no problem with serving me with a cheese board from their starter menu for my dessert and it was a lovely selection of Italian cheeses.
A lovely treat having such good well-cooked food in a simple setting - I would strongly recommend...
Read moreWe visited here on a Saturday night where our table of 13 was pre booked here. We were greeted by a lovely waitress and owner of the restaurant which was lovely. Our table was set up and the room was spacious- not being too close to other guests. As it was pre booked a deposit was taken as well as orders. The waitress confirmed with us of when we felt ready for starters which was great. Starters arrived and the portions were great. Tasty and generous portions given. Main courses were great and guests around the table all reported their meals were tasty. This included a lasagne, mushroom risotto, various pizzas and meat. Steak and lamb chops cooked to guests requested rareness which was lovely. Pizzas were great and we were told they are made with sour dough. Toppings good but one area I feel would improve on. Toppings were quite basic, vegetables like onions and peppers would enhance the flavour I feel on various pizzas offered on the menu, instead of having carrots and broccoli as a topping on the vegetarian pizza. Not seen a topping on a pizza like that before. But all in all it tasted delicious. Service was fantastic throughout the the host ensured we were accommodated throughout. A celebration cake was provided to the team discreetly and the host ensured the cake was brought out with music and candles. The experience felt really personal which we felt was important. Price wise- a little pricey we felt, steak being £31, lamb chops being £27 and a double shot of limoncello being £9. However I am unsure of their competitors pricing and am comparing this to London and Wiltshire pricing - where I am based. Overall experience was fantastic and we felt it deserved 5 stars due to the excellent service. Thankyou to the...
Read moreI visited a while ago with my boyfriend after we read the lovely reviews online. Service was good and all meals served fast, the restaurant is nothing special, but looks nice and clean and we were sat on a lovely table with fresh flowers for a romantic dinner. Good things end here. We ordered the Mixed cheese and meat starter for two and to our surprise we got a mix of thickly cut (impossible to chew) Spanish chorizo, French brie and a few slices of Italian prosciutto. For the same price of £25 in other places you get a board so big sometimes you don’t need a main course (Eva’s restaurant in Crediton for example). Then we had the pasta Carbonara, which wasn’t terrible, but it had so much cheese in it that the sauce was lumpy and had a very strong taste. My advice: If you are low on some ingredients for the night, recommend other dishes to your customers instead of charging them a high price for something they can make them selves better. I regret I didn’t take any pictures. If we visit again I’ll definitely...
