What a lovely cafe to relax in. Richard (the owner) is a very proud of the cakes he bakes and with good reason. In a peaceful courtyard, hidden away in Sidmouth this place is stumbled upon, or you know it's there. Relaxing, and complimenting perfectly the creative businesses that it is joined by around the courtyard, this is not a cfae to huury into and out of. Take your time, enjoy the music, people-watch, treat yourself to cake, breakfast or lunch with tea, coffee or wine and while away a couple of hours. You'll be very pleased you did ... and before you go, Richard will happily find a container for you to take 1, 2 (or more!?) slices with you.

A very great little place for some fresh and tasty food and drinks away from the bustle of Sidmouth high street. I opted for the fresh crab sandwich and it was delicious. The cappuccino was also excellent. The small courtyard cafe has a few tables inside but the vibe is outside surrounded by pottery galleries and studios. Such a quiet place with no passing traffic and very few people looking at you. A large sun sail above the courtyard would allow outside eating/drinking in a light rain. They are licensed and sell various ciders. Came away feeling well fed and refreshed in mind and body.

A really nice find. Great service, very friendly and efficient. The decor was a bit twee for my tastes but I have to admit it works with the space! I had a really good crab sandwich. My wife had a vegetable tagine which looked and smelt very good and according to my wife tasted delicious. Dog friendly, I can recommend Shelley’s for a nice lunch or afternoon tea.

Decent enough food... Young lad pleasant enough but the woman not so. "Just tap water with our food for now please as we'll have tea with cream teas after lunch as our dessert thanks." "So three mineral waters then?" "No, just tap water. And cream tea is two for £8 but there are three of us dining. Will it be £12 for the three of us?" (Pretending to not understand), "Well I can charge you for three separate cream teas then." And off she went without any sort of friendly gesture. Definitely put out at the tap water request even though we planned to spend on lunch then cream teas - more than most of their customers! Anyhow, I didn't press the point about three full price cream teas at the time of ordering our main lunch and thought I'd see how things played out. As it happened, one of us didn't fancy cream tea after lunch so we got the two for £8! Another couple (customers) asked for something not on their menu but they accommodated - two toasted teacakes (clearly indicating one each). They were taken aback when the lad delivered their order of 'two portions of teacakes' (carefully chosen words) which comprised of two teacakes per person. The couple were too polite to say anything but they exchanged comments about it out of earshot of service staff. They were good value enough at £2.50 each portion (I worked it out as I got curious!) but it wasn't what they asked for! As I say, nice food and fairly priced for the area but upselling...

Very upsetting & unpleasant experience today.

The lady serving came to find me on the street after I left & was adamant I had left without paying. I told her I paid when I ordered & let her know how much I paid. She was still adamant I hadn't paid.

We returned to the cafe where she looked through her records & she found my payment! Not only had she accused me of not paying but it transpired she'd over charged me! She didn't volunteer giving me the overcharge back. It was begrudgingly given.

There was no incling of an apology from her despite it all being her error. I feel really upset about it. It all would have been OK if she'd been pleasant & apologised as mistakes happen. Such a shame. Richard the owner has always been lovely. My husband & I have been there 3 times over the past month, but it was a very unpleasant...

Amazing little find. Having been in Simdouth for a few months, I didn't realise this little piece of heaven existed as it's tucked away from the main highstreet / seafront. Lovely secluded setting matched with a friendly welcome from the owner and another member of staff. We had coffees and cakes and salivated over the rest of the menu which looked delicious. The cakes were amazing and I would have paid a lot more as often you get bought in products which are very disappointing. I could see the owner making the cakes in the back to prove they were original. The decor was lovely and the background music very fitting. We will definitely be back for lunch soon. Good that they serve alcohol but think an extended list would be favoured? A lovely G & T, prosecco or glass of Pimms would work wonders! Thanks Selleys and we'll...
