Firstly the food was good, both of us had Large Haddock & chips with mushy peas and bread n butter, mine with curry sauce & girlfriends with gravy. How it ended up arriving / being served was a complete lack of organisation & poor communication by our waitress. Brought out by a waiter, we told him we had asked for bread n butter yet wasn't here. Also pointing out missing mushy peas too. 10 mins later we noticed waiter hadn't gone to kitchen for passing this info on. Called back original waitress who sorted it out. My girlfriend had asked for a milkshake instead of choosing tea or coffee with meal deal. When she asked if it was extra for this or could be included in deal as alternative the waitress seemed confused and simply answered 'yes you can have a milkshake instead'. When it came to settling the bill, another older waitress took our payments, we asked about milkshake, whether it was being charged separate or included in meal deal. She said without hesitation its separate. My girlfriend replied saying she never had tea or coffee. The milkshake was her only drink, as a nice gesture, lady could of been flexible and let it go through like a meal deal but instead my girlfriend ended up paying £2.50 more for the same meal which I also had. If we'd know this, they might as well of brought out 2 teas, in which I would of drunk more tea while my girlfriend had her milkshake. Poor execution by them. My partner said female toilets were disgusting too, well overdue a clean, soap dispenser was broken, barely hanging on the wall. Falling off when you pressed it for soap. The restaurant layout seemed Ok with booths & deco. Shame that didn't carry...
Read moreRather than being shown to our table upon entering the restaurant and being asked if we would like a drink while we looked at the menu, we were told where to sit while the waitress preceded to laugh and joke around with her colleague.
After 20 minutes of waiting (not exaggerating at all) we genuinely thought we had to get up and order ourselves somewhere in the restaurant, so I queried where we should go to do so and was surprised to here from the very same waitress that, no.. they do in fact come to your table to take your order like a normal restaurant and "someone" will be with us shortly. Another 5 minutes pass and since we had still not been served we decided to leave on principle.
Strangely enough the very same waitress that told us where to sit made a comment to a colleague when we left along the lines of "great now they're leaving" as if it was their fault, when the entire time all she was doing was "pointing" to customers where to sit and nothing else.
FYI to the staff/management of this establishment, and that individual in particular placing the blame on her colleagues for us leaving, if a customer(s) that YOU welcomed, YOU "showed" where to sit, YOU saw many times on your rounds with other customers AND who had to come to YOU to enquire how to order after being seated for 20 minutes, maybe rather than telling them "someone" will be over to take their order "shortly", perhaps YOU should use some initiative and take their order before they get up and leave just as we did.
VERY Poor Experience and would get 0 stars if it was possible to...
Read moreWe used to visit this fish and chip shop when it was the clock tower and always rated it but haven't been for a while so it came as a bit of surprise at the change of quality. Our latest experience was a let down really. All of our fish and chips, though freshly cooked, were measley sized portions, my son's (adult) sausage and chips was even smaller - we counted just 11 chips!! And we definitely ordered and paid for an adults portion.
One of the waitresses had a terrible attitude, she practically threw my husband's food at me before I had to chance to grab the plate from her, knocking chips down me and burning my fingers. Then when we asked where our final order from the table was she demanded to see the receipt to check we'd actually ordered it at all and huffed off when she found it was on the receipt. No apology for the delay or politeness, it felt like we were a real inconvenience for being there.
I had to ask three times for some extra drinks and where they were (over a period of 20+ mins) so we could actually have them with our food. Again, it felt like we were an inconvenience in being there despite it not being visibly busy in the restaurant.
The food was well overpriced for what we received, the bill for 6 people coming to over £125 (it was only fish and chips x 5, sausage and chips x 1 plus drinks, albeit a couple of them were beers). I'm kicking myself for not saying something whilst we were there but with the attitude from the staff it felt like anything we might have said would have caused a drama. Next time I'll be looking for...
