We haven't been for a few years, but have been coming to the Beck since about 2005, as our Caravan was in Mablethorpe. IMO It's one of the best places in town for a nice meal out, including their popular carvery. The Beck has plenty of parking (be aware they charge for their parking for non restaurant users) and it's a nice looking place just along about 300yds from Jackson's Arcade in Quebec road at the seafront end of the town. It has a mixture of regular seating, and seating booths along the front side, which we always sit in. We'd booked for our recent visit (first time since COVID started) which is always advisable, and had a Burger, 2 Pizzas + sides of Garlic Bread, Onion Rings, Chips & drinks. We were all feeling hungry, and excited to be back eating in one of our favourite places in Mablethorpe. Ordering was as at the bar, and very straightforward, and were told with the 2 Pizzas we'd ordered, you got a 3rd free! (We couldn't eat it, so they kindly gave us pizza box so we could take it home). Our food arrived within about 15-20 minutes, served by a lovely, friendly lady, and was nicely presented on wooden slabs, OK for pizza, but would've preferred plates for the burger. The food was lovely, with decent tasting pizza, and well cooked. A minor criticism, was the burger came with only a handful of chips in a basket, which was cool, but rather stingy compared to the sides of chips. Our experience on this visit wasn't the best due to a group of rowdy student types, who were constantly swearing, but luckily they were only in for a quick carvery feed up, and soon left. It hasn't changed a lot over the years, although the styling has been modernised, but the staff are still great, and so is the food, and that's what really matters. Overall, good value for those looking for a decent 'pub...
Read moreWanted to like this place more but just wasn't good enough. Dog friendly and a lot going on in the menu department. Friendly staff. We went into the dog friendly area and got drinks. It was 6:45pm and the staff member was stacking the table and chairs up and removing condiments from the area. I asked what time they stopped food and he said "around 7ish or 8ish"!! Okay, what time do you stop serving drinks? I asked. "When the staff go home" he said. As it was 7pm by now, I quickly ordered pizzas and garlic bread to take away. They were alright but that garlic bread was over powering with garlic. Way, WAY to much garlic for me so I just had the one slice. ( well, two bites). We give this place another go the next day as it was just down the road from our caravan site. I ordered the plain cheese beef burger and I also added the extra beef pate so I could give it to my dog. My other half had fish and chips. The food came quickly. About 5 minutes. My partner enjoyed the fish and chips but my beef burger was horrible. It tasted of onion. It tasted like those cheap beef with onion burgers you can get at a supermarket. I absolutely loathe onion. But not only that, onion is poisonous, extremely toxic to dogs. I feel that it should have said in the description on the menu that the beef had onion in it. So that spoilt my meal. Never went back again. We did want to return to try the carvery but I just wasn't feeling the love...
Read moreCame here for Father's Day coincidently for my grandmother's 80th birthday. We booked the day before with no hassle and found out if you provide ID to prove it's your birthday, you get a free meal, which is great.
The Beck is in a great location at the front of Mablethorpe and has plenty of parking, both at the front and the rear. The staff are really friendly and willing to help you. The place itself is nice, it looks modern, clean and the seating is set out in rows, like you see in American diners, so you don't feel shoulder to shoulder in any way. The carvery isn't cheap, but they don't market it like that because as far as pubs go, it's nicer than regular chain pubs like Sizzler and Beefeater, even though it has those similar type of menus and material laying around.
The carvery itself was great, the Beef melted in your mouth and the veg etc was all tasty and crispy, nothing felt like it had been sat there for a while, Except the mash, that did taste like smash, and the Yorkshire weren't homemade, but we can let that slip.
They also have Batemans on tap, which is nice because it's only brewed 20 miles away in Wainfleet.
There's not many places to get a good carvery from in Mablethorpe, so to have one that is at least, pleasant, tasty and convenient....
