Good Saturday lunch. Rapidly served after ordering. Real fires. Good value. Locals in the bar area. Good experience.

Cosy traditional pub with friendly service. The menu is limited but really does the job.

And that's because 1 start is as low as I could go! No wonder this pub has not been reviewed for a while. Great building, very nice staff. All that lets it down is the food. We called for lunch today, and I can say without exaggeration it was the worst food I have experienced in a long time. 5 stars for the effort to make sausage and mash that inedible. Mash was full of lumps, and had been in the fridge far to long, resulting in a metallic/sour taste. Served literally in half an inch of gravy made from some type of cheap stack cube. I didn't go on to test the sausages. My partner had the Ploughman's Lunch. Small piece of cheese, that had sat in the fridge for goodness knows how long, with very salty ham. This used to be a very good pub, loads of atmosphere and always busy. Today had two other diners and us. What a wast of one of Louth's landmark pubs. How can anyone cook so badly and expect to get away...

Beautiful old pub situated very close to St. James's Church at the heart of Louth Town. Greeted by friendly staff & open fires. This is a wonderful retreat in the winter months. Equally in the summer, the wonderful views of the Spire from the outside terrace lend to a refreshing, enjoyable & laid back experience backed up by the occasional organised event. Often, food is provided for by pop-up catering Indian, Italian & Greek cuisine being included. The general lunch menu includes rare roast beef sandwiches, which are delightful. The pub has its own brew known as The Tipsy Toad & is a good beer. The beer is very well kept, too. I highly recommend this public house to any visitors to Louth & as a resident, it is personally one of my go-to...

Popped in for a meal on the evening of the 18th Jan went to order to be told they couldn't serve us any food as they had a big party coming in and they were about to run out. So thought we would give it another go but booked first for the 23rd June belated fathers day to arrive ordered drinks to be told they had run out of beef and don't do chicken and as some of our party do not like pork or lamb we had to leave and find somewhere else to have lunch. Won't get a third...
