The Hideaway — Restaurant in East Staffordshire

I went to The Hideaway yesterday around 1:30pm after booking a surprise afternoon tea there at 9am that morning, i was told they needed 24hr notice of the afternoon tea but agreed as it was only for 2 they could accommodate us, which I was very grateful for. We arrived to find our reservation was in a quiet spot in the restaurant,and the table was nicely laid out and decorated with a birthday greeting for my sister which i found a nice touch! The afternoon tea arrived, with a good choice of 4 sandwiches, scones, jam and clotted cream, eclairs, mini lemon tarts, trifle (which was great as it is my sisters favourite!) and cupcakes and unlimited tea, but if you wanted you could have had coffee. A lovely and appropriately named cafe in Burton town centre, they do a brilliant range of luxury milk shakes like the strawberry one which has real strawberries in it. But their toasted sandwiches are the stand out attraction. We had the bacon, Brie and cranberry ciabatta and the chicken, pesto and mozzarella ciabatta, they one with crisps and a side salad with your choice of salad dressing and they are fantastic. And I know you can say ‘well, most cafes sell these’ and you’d be right but they don’t do them as good as the Hideaway Cafe does them. My daughter treated me to afternoon tea here and it was absolutely lovely. The bread is so soft and the filings were tasty. We requested plain scones and they were very happy to oblige. They were great with jam and cream. The pudding selection was delicious. Especially the profiteroles. We couldn't eat it all so they happily provided takeaway boxes to pack up our leftover cakes to take home. The staff were very friendly and kept the unlimited tea and coffee in good supply.
