Wednesday 12/9 in the afternoon. I was visiting Aldeburgh with my sister-in-law and her 8 month daughter and 3 year old son. She chose to visit this café. There were about 5 members of staff of various ages. My first impression of the staff was not good. They were unfriendly, unwelcoming, and clearly did not want the children in the café. I am not tolerant of badly behaved children, however, both were very well behaved when we arrived, so this could not have given the staff a reason to behave in this manner. I have noted the comments made 3 weeks ago about rude staff which indicates that whatever words of wisdom may have been passed on to them by the owner has failed to sink in.
I didn't have anything to eat myself, but my sister-in-law chose an egg and bacon bap. She didn't pass comment on the food but it did look nice.
I had a pot of tea. Alas, this was lacking any flavour and provided a weak cup of tea despite allowing it time to brew.
I do thank you for having a dog friendly café. I would normally of had my 2 black Labradors with me. I hope they wouldn't have been looked upon inconsiderately by the staff. I found that most of the people I encountered both in shops, cafes and in the streets of Aldeburgh appeared to be dog lovers.
I will be returning to Aldeburgh in the future so will take time out to visit your café again and see if things have improved. With the competition of so many other cafes in the immediate area, I would hate to see your business suddenly fail due to behaviour...
Read moreMunchies in Aldeburgh. So good! This is our breakfast spot whenever we come down to Aldeburgh; everything about the place is excellent. From the moment you arrive, you'll be greeted with an impressive selection of treats in the window (chocolate ring doughnut is our favourite). There's a load of seating in the back for when the Suffolk weather isn't cooperating - at the time of writing this review, we got fortunate and, for 30 minutes, were the only people in. However, with experience, this isn't always the case. It always stays calm, but it's certainly popular. Sometimes, during peak times, expect a tiny wait while the friendly staff clears the table. We've eaten many different things from the menu, but we went for a few veggie sausage baps and some beans on toast this time. The food came out quickly, piping hot, and was delicious! While we wait, you can enjoy the free WiFi, or if you're in the mood, do the old-fashioned thing and have a conversation. It's a great place to meet friends and family for a hot drink. I know this review sounds a bit one-sided, like, "Is there anything bad about Munchies?" well, not really. If you're being picky, you could argue that the shared parking (right out front) can get slightly chaotic occasionally, but that's not Munchie's fault.
Honestly, the coffee is excellent, the staff (especially the owner) is fab, and the place is clean and cosy—a great place.
Also, they're veggie/vegan-friendly, so extra points scored!
We'll be back...
