NEVER AGAIN -tired decor, predictable menus, warm white wine - poor staff attitude AVOID

Review We hadn't been here for years as the restaurant decor has been tied and tatty for a long time, the menu became predictable and generally standards fell after the change of ownership.

We were in Aldeburgh and couldn't get a booking at our first choices so decided to go here as the last option. I wish we never had and knew the moment we walked in we had made a mistake. It's a restaurant factory with no finesse. The fish we wanted wasn't served filleted and we were told the kitchen was too busy to do it for us. So we chose something else. Not a good start. I looked at the very ordinary wine list and struggled to find anything half decent. I eventually chose a Montagny asking for it to be very chilled. I like white wine very chilled. I was presented with a luke warm bottle in a watery ice bucket which the waiter said was at 12 degrees but felt warmer 10 degrees warmer. I asked what he had that was colder and he produced the same wine apparently from a different fridge.Bizarre. I accepted this and asked for two bottles. I was then accused by the same waiter of being rude to staff presumably because I challenged the temperature of the wine. Quite bizarre as I was very pleasant and polite up until this outrageous comment was made. At this point I stood up told the waiter to F off and we left. Can they really be doing that well to think acting like this is good for business. We all know Regatta is past it's best and I will never ever go back and will let others know. Maybe more people should know to avoid it hence the review. I wish we had never gone back and certainly never will...

We had dinner here and were greeted well and offered a choice of tables. There is a nice menu and several specials are offered. The hummus and pitta starter was nice with a hint of spice and the complimentary bread, butters and olive oil with balsamic was good quality. The fish with new potatoes and chorizo ratatouille special was well executed and satisfying. The vegetarian choice of breaded halloumi was substantial, but the accompliment of rocket and a bed of tomato salsa could have been more embellished. There was a lot of halloumi but not much going on with the rest of the dish. Also, it would be nicer if the halloumi wasn't in breadcrumbs but as it comes, just grilled in slices as it was hard to tell if it had been made by the chef or was from a packet. The serving staff were friendly, attentive but not intrusive. The wine list complimented the dishes well. The double espresso at the end of the meal was good. The restaurant is spacious and nicely decorated with a seaside...

Managed to get a table without a reservation during Carnival weekend! Super friendly staff and a good menu with some interesting dishes. First time we'd seen Carlingford oysters in Aldeburgh so had to them. Served on a plate of seaweed they were only slightly lower than room temperature. We pointed this out and were brought replacements, as originally anticipated, on crushed ice. Only other negative observation was that whilst schucked, they'd not been seperated from the shell.

The rest of the meal was very good. Somewhat limited vegetarian selection - one main on the a la carte menu and none on the specials board... in 2018, mind. Missing a trick here.

There was a small but terrifically tumultuous table of tots creating mayhem with little if any parental oversight which was happily discourged onto the street during our meal, to the delight of those of us seated at the front of...

VERY EXPENSIVE place for tiny portions! I went there the other day for lunch, I've had a olives and houmous started and it was a TINY child portion of completely bland houmous which didn't have any lemon in it, half of pita bread, few canned olives and mushed canned olives, it was so OVERPRICED for what u get. For main I have lamb shoulder with couscous, bit of spinach and aubergine and yet again portion for that £21.50 was absolutely TINY. I normally struggle to finish my meals but I have finished this one so I can tell you that portions are TINYYYYYYYY. PS staff was absolutely confused keep forgetting either half of your course or cutlery, and old lady with glasses just looked so angry it literally ruins whole atmosphere and you feel awkward being there, as if you're disturbing her or something. That not how you want new customers to feel like. I WONT BE BACK

I had lunch with my family here today and it was so excellent that I felt compelled to write this review! Every single dish that came to the table was exceptionally delicious. The fish and chips might actually be the best battered fish I’ve ever had (!!!) and the tempura prawns and gravadlax that my Son and I shared for starters were perfectly done. The pear tart and ice cream we had for afters was absolutely divine… and also vegan (I can’t eat dairy and usually struggle to find a dessert offering that isn’t mango or raspberry sorbet). My parents come here weekly and I honestly can’t believe I’ve never eaten here before, but I am already looking forward to returning!! I would highly recommend!!
