I come here as often as I can which isn't nearly often enough, if you are after good quality home cooked food prepared ad hock on the premises then this is the place to be. Yes it's small but the service is prompt and efficient, Sue and George do a great job here as well as their other staff, forget the rest in Fram, The Common Room is the best place to go regardless of whether you just want a sandwich or a full breakfast/lunch.
The Common Room has moved from it's far too small premises on Bridge St just up the road to number 10 Church Street by the old conservative club and reopened to the public this week. What a difference!! George, Sue and their staff have done an incredible job getting this place the way they want it and it works beautifully. The characteristics of the old place are still there but there's more of it. At least twice the size of the old venue so more seating and the tables have been set as far apart as possible to comply with social distancing regulations. They have kept their main menu from before but of course there are the daily specials like the ever popular steak and ale pie. Sue at the helm taking great pride in her cooking and rightly so with George managing front of house.
Today was the first time I'd set foot in the new premises and i have to say i was very pleasantly surprised at just how good it looks. But then knowing George i wouldn't have expected anything less. It was nice to see Leah was still there. I had to go for Sue's legendary Mac n cheese and it was just as good as it's ever been, Sue clearly hasn't lost her touch. 🤗😊
I will definitely be goindg back, maybe on Sunday, roast day. Forget the other eateries in fram, The Common Room is where it's at.
One other thing to mention which escaped me, they are now open evenings from Wednesday until Saturday, (the evening menu is included in the photos). Check for opening\closing times as I'm not sure where they stand with the new closing regulations but trust me, it will be just as good as during the day. I haven't been in the evening yet, i have that pleasure...
Read moreThis was the worst customer experience I ve had in a long time. I was pressured to leave my table to give room to others apparently because I had already finished my coffee and cake and was just working on my phone (this was after about 45min in there). I had been sitting by myself at a table that fitted 6 (the owner asked me to sit there suggesting it could get busy and that would be better for sharing, which I was happy with). 4 people arrived and came standing next to my table and I was enquired by the owner if I was going to have any more food. The tone was not a kind one. I sensed pressure and urgency. I was surprised and was then honest to say I wasnt sure (until then I had actually been contemplating to have lunch and another coffee). The owner kept asking me impatiently and suggested I wasnt helping. This was a traumatic experience that I dont wish to anyone else. I obviously decided to leave as I just couldnt remain in that environment where I was clearly not welcome. I shared an emotional testimonial of this experience on my social media (without mentioning the name of the cafe) and got so many replies. Questions that came up: “would I have been approached like this if I were a man? If I were a couple or group of friends having a chat.. or if I didnt have a foreign accent?” Mind you even if the 4 customers who had arrived didnt want to share a table with me, there were other spaces available at other big tables where I could maybe join. But the idea of finding a solution to make everyone happy wasnt considered. This was the first time I felt so unwelcome and felt as if I had been kicked out of a supposedly “very good” cafe. Im not coming from a place of hatred here specially because this was a very sad experience to me. I just feel I need to share this with other potential customers and also with the owners who can then have an opportunity to reflect and improve for the future (for other customers as they obviously...

From the moment I stepped into The Common Room, I was enveloped by an atmosphere rich with warmth and conviviality. This coffee shop is a gem, offering not only excellent service but also a unique experience that sets it apart from the rest.
The staff at The Common Room are genuinely friendly and attentive. Their eagerness to ensure each patron feels welcomed and cared for contributes to the overall ambiance of the establishment. Even during the busiest times, they manage to maintain their composure and deliver an outstanding level of service.
During my visit, I decided to try their eggy bread. To my delight, it was not only delicious but also perfectly prepared, with a delicate balance of flavors that left me craving more. The combination of tender bread with a crispy exterior and a light, fluffy interior was simply irresistible.
What truly sets The Common Room apart, however, is its remarkable atmosphere. The record player situated in the corner of the room, surrounded by a vast and eclectic collection of records, invites patrons to peruse and choose their favorite tunes. The sound of vinyl crackling as classic and contemporary tracks fill the air adds a nostalgic charm to the experience. This touch of personalization and interaction allows customers to feel truly connected to the space.
In conclusion, The Common Room is a delightful escape from the daily grind, offering exceptional service, delectable fare, and a captivating atmosphere that keeps patrons coming back for more. If you're in search of a cozy retreat to enjoy a delicious cup of coffee, a scrumptious meal, and the soothing sound of your favorite records, look no further than this...
