The fish & chips were… okay. Overcooked fish, chips on the dry side, barely any vinegar in sight — nothing that would normally make me write a review. What did make me write a review was what happened after The Seagull Incident.
We were sitting outside when a seagull - clearly a seasoned professional - swooped in, knocked an entire box of food to the ground, and strutted off with our lunch like it had paid for it. We rescued the remaining portion and went inside, expecting at least a flicker of sympathy.
Instead, we got the rulebook of “you can’t sit in the waiting area” and “the restaurant area is for customers who paid extra”.
And that was that. No “oh wow, that’s unlucky,” but just blank faces and the repeated phrase “boss’s rules” like it explained everything. And maybe it did - it was obvious the staff didn’t invent this policy. But they also didn’t offer even the tiniest human kindness, which costs nothing.
So to be clear: the food was okay. The seagull was bold. The boss’s rules were ridiculous. And the staff delivered those rules with all the warmth of a parking meter.
Bonus tip: there’s a much better-looking fish & chips shop right across the street. We should’ve gone there. You...
Read moreToday Friday 8th August is our third visit to the Pelican Fish Restaurant. And both my wife and myself would highly recommend anyone to visit this Restaurant. To start with the staff are extremely welcoming, and attentive they basically, just can't do enough to insure you have everything you need, and they make sure everything is clean and tidy. Regarding the fish and, chips, they are absolutely delicious, and cooked to perfection, and nicely presented. Along with what every drinks you require. "(My preference being there tea)" The Pelican is certainly worth a vist, we would be very surprised if you wasn't fully satisfied with your choice off the menu, no matter what you had tried. We have had both regular Haddok and Chips, and regular Cod and chips, during our visits, and as I said previously they were absolutely delicious. I would like give the staff of the Pelican, my greatful thanks for there absolutely amazing attitude towards all there customers. Thank you all so much for making our visits so pleasant, and welcoming. The attitude of all staff, is certainly aimed at the customer comes first. And as I've said your fish and chips are the best we've found in Eastbourne. HIGHLY RECOMMEND...
Read moreVisiting Eastbourne for the day, popped in for quick bite to eat after seeing reviews online. Place presented very nicely. Customer service was okay. Order our food, I had haddock. It was so oily the batter was all soggy and not very nice very off putting, when paying £9.10 for a meal it can with a handful of chips which were not the best. We ordered a saveloy with chips as well, the saveloy was so bland and all you could taste was water that it had been sat in, wasn’t even warm. The curry sauce was like water and didn’t taste like curry sauce at all. When you go down to the toilet there is a stubborn stench of potato which was so off putting! There was another family in the restaurant at the time and what I’m guessing was someone that worked there grabbed one of their children in a horrible manner causing the poor little girl to scream extremely loudly and marched her out of the restaurant I thought this was a rather daunting experience. When I express my concerns to the waiter he apologies and presented me with the bill and we left after leaving half of our meals. Feeling disappointed and myself not...
