Having popped into town early to help my wife, Gemma, spend her birthday book vouchers (don't mock, if there's a bibliophile in your life you'll know these are the perfect gift!) we we're wandering along Grove Rd and decided to stop into the Skylark for breakfast. Following a friendly welcome and a delicious cup of coffee, Gemma settled on the apple and cinnamon pancakes while I went for the rather less adventurous 'Full English' - and I can tell you now that I'm very glad I did.
An English breakfast may well be a simple dish, but I'm of the opinion that it can be elevated to greatness or condemned to the pit of wasted calories by two things: The sausages and the eggs. Bacon, mushrooms, beans, and black pudding (an optional extra here) are fairly standard where-ever you go, but when you crown it - as they do at the Skylark - with 2 absolutely perfectly fried eggs and a pair of beautiful herby, peppery bangers, it becomes the true king of breakfasts.
Portions are generous too, to the extent that I only just had enough room to finish the half a pancake that my wife just couldn't manage - which was an altogether different kind of delicious: Thick and fluffy with soft apples, cinnamon, and the genius addition of honeycomb that anyone with a sweet tooth...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI recently visited Skylark in Eastbourne for breakfast and was blown away by the quality of the food and coffee. From the moment I walked in, I was struck by the warm and inviting atmosphere, with cozy seating and beautiful decor that made me feel right at home.
The breakfast menu was extensive and featured a variety of delicious options, from classic English breakfasts to lighter options like avocado toast and granola bowls. I opted for the full English breakfast, and it was absolutely delicious - the bacon was crispy, the eggs were perfectly cooked, and the toast was fresh and buttery.
But what really stood out to me was the coffee. Skylark uses high-quality beans and expertly prepares each cup, resulting in a rich and flavorful brew that was the perfect complement to my breakfast.
Overall, I would highly recommend Skylark to anyone looking for a delicious breakfast and great coffee in Eastbourne. The food and coffee are exceptional, and the atmosphere is warm and inviting. Whether you're a local or a visitor, this restaurant is definitely...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreWe went in on Friday morning, and were the only customers for half an hour. I understand that there has been a change of ownership, and it really shows. I'm sorry Craig and Erina, we were solid customers with you guys for years, but we've now visited twice since the change of ownership: Service is ok, albeit the staff are more interested in themselves than customers, shrinking breakfasts, not very hot coffee, clear spill stains on the wall next to the table, which itself was not very clean. My wife, vegetarian , didn't like the limited choices, ordering toast and marmalade, but received Strawberry Jam instead. The actually quite dirty and stained menus. There are ample other options available on Grove road now, and therefore we'll be visiting one of those in future. Particularly, Hyde Corner has recently demonstrated how a good change of ownership can...
