I'm Chinese living in London. Took my parents to Windsor Castle for a day trip and went to 1432 China kitchen for a Chinese meal as it is supposed to be authentic. The food was fine although over-priced (fish priced at £36+ and normal meat dishes around £20+) even compared to London good Chinese restaurants prices.
I noticed the Chinese menu has higher prices than the english one (which is stick on the outside window). One waiter subsequently brought the English version and said it is for GUI LAO (translated as "white ghost" - rude way of referring to non-Chinese people) which I thought was rather inappropriate. He also explained that the Chinese version only has the HIGHER prices as it is bigger portion. When we decided on the dishes and specified we'd like to have the small portion (per the English menu offer) to another waiter, the second waiter said they are not bothered with small portions anymore as too much trouble. I mentioned that the 1st waiter said we could offer small portions. He hesitated and said it is only for certain dishes but when asked to point out which dishes have smaller portion he just randomly pointed at a couple of prawn dishes. I asked why the outside menu has the lower prices he got defensive said it is for take-away only. I didn't want to argue with him but it makes no sense the inside menu has higher prices than the outside menu. I waited to make orders with a waitress who was very nice and helpful. She confirmed that I can definitely order smaller portions. However when I asked for the bill (the second waiter brought it over) I noticed that one fo the dishes was still showing the higher (Chinese menu) price. We had to run for our train so we left.
Overall food was fine (although I read some other reviews saying used to be a lot better) but massively over-priced. Service terrible. For Chinese tourists who don't understand much english, it is a place to be...
Read moreIf I could rate 0/5 I would. This place is worst takeaway, terrible customer service and I was out right lied to by the staff on the phone. I ordered at 1:47am. Estimated delivery 2:40-3, already that is ridiculous. It doesn’t arrive at 2:40 and call for an update to be told my order has left the building with the driver and he has other people on the route as well as the delivery place being 13 miles from me ( it wasn’t it’s 8.4) so it will be a little white. I wait until 3:10 still no food so I call to cancel and be refunded. I’m told that because I ordered through Uber eats I have to cancel it, however Uber eats app says you can’t cancel as your order is already “In the works”. Which I’ve just been told it’s not! I call back again to be told my food hasn’t even been made, the driver will be back in 14 minutes and then he will deliver the food…the food that’s not even been made but it will be with me in 30 minutes. I wait for 30 minutes, at this point I ordered TWO HOURS ago. Couldn’t cancel it or get a refund on the absolutely sky high priced food. I finally got my food 2 hours and 5 minutes after I ordered it. AVOID. I wish I had looked deeper at the reviews before ordering, I wonder what kind of limp apology this review will get because I never recieved one...
Read moreMy experience today with this restaurant was perhaps my worst experience ever with any restaurants. 1. Food is just so so, not authentic Sichuan food at all. 2. The restroom is very dirty and even without hand soap. Can you imagine what will happen after their own staff used the restroom? 3. The service is ridiculously mean as they even charges 0.5 dollar for each person for just a cup of pure hot water! I think the next step is to put the paper tissue on the menu. 4. One of the waiters with tattoos all over his arms was really rude and he is very good at deceiving people and may be subject to tax evasion. At the end of the lunch, I would like to use my credit card to pay. But he admitted that his POS machine has something wrong and he would like me to pay cash or i have to wait. I refused and he lied that he has to "borrow" machine from neighbor restaurant and ask me to wait again. I refused again and he checked back and forth for a couple of times.. After around 20 mins delay, he miraculously fix the POS machine and I was able to pay. He even complained about my attitude towards him. What a great waiter he was to treat customer.
