I was visiting Windsor with family and we decided to stop in here. It was particularly quiet for a Saturday evening but perhaps we were just there as it opened. We were promptly seated. The waitress took our drinks orders which came out very quickly. The wine glasses had a slightly odd smell about them like they had been in storage and then taken straight from a box and placed on the table without any cleaning before allowing people to use them. The staff were friendly enough and the menu looked good, two of us of the four, had starters. The soup of the day contained way too much white pepper, it was overpowering. The squid was tasty enough but the batter had not been fried off for long enough as there were some bit of uncooked flour in each bite. Three of the four mains came out within seconds of each other, mine came out when the rest of the party had almost finished theirs! One of us had salmon with potatoes, one had fish and chips of which the fish had an unusually fishy smell, clearly frozen and refried or reheated. Two of us had chicken and mushrooms in a cream sauce with sautéed potatoes, not much flavour to the sauce, it was like some double cream had been warmed and then the mushrooms thrown in before serving. The potatoes tasted stale, like they had been pre-cooked and then warmed back through. Given the quality of the food the prices seemed to be marked up a little too high, we would have been happy if the standard of the food was higher. It was a shame that the food was below par and that one of the meals was clearly forgotten about. The staff as I said seem to be friendly enough, but on reflection, we can only assume the place is so quiet due to the food quality and price. The quality standards of this place need to be addressed to compete with some far better food establishments in...
Read moreWell, this place sure knows how to make an impression—just not a good one. We rolled in at 7pm on a Saturday, and the first red flag was that it was emptier than my will to return. But, since everywhere else was packed, we bravely ventured in like culinary explorers without options.
Our waitress—a short-haired brunette with the energy of someone who'd rather be anywhere else—sashayed over while chewing gum like she was in a middle school talent show. Pushy doesn't begin to describe it, but hey, we ordered anyway: two pizzas, ribs, a burger, and a chicken kebab. I guess they figured if they cooked everything badly, we wouldn’t be able to pinpoint just one issue. The ribs were an insult to pigs everywhere, the pizza could've used another 10 minutes in the oven (and maybe an exorcism), the burger was tolerable, and the kebab was...fine.
After that feast of disappointment, the waitress pulled a disappearing act. Empty plates, empty glasses, and empty hopes of her ever returning. When we did flag her down, she was rude, again—this time, with a bonus: we caught her taking a break at the bar with a Heineken in hand. I guess she was drinking to forget the food, too.
Would I go back? Not unless I’m in the mood for overpriced chaos and witnessing an employee’s shift-long existential crisis. 10/10 would...
Read moreThe Bruschetta to start was an insult to Italian food and to anyone who is unfortunate enough to order and pay for it. Three tiny pieces of chewy bread that were either stale or had been in the freezer, topped with an insane number of cherry tomatoes that had simply been chopped in half, chucked on the plate and covered in garlic.
The seafood pasta featured overcooked pasta and tiny morsels of seafood that I’m guessing were straight out of a frozen bag of mixed seafood. The only taste that came through was from the heat of the chilli in the sauce.
The spinach linguine featured a tomato sauce that was so watery it tasted like it was strained from a tin of Heinz’ Spaghetti Hoops.
Our table had three soft drinks between us in addition to the one starter and two mains. This all came to £55.00!! At best the meal was worth £25.00. It certainly was a long walk home after paying that!!
In short: expect to pay through the nose for, at best, mediocre food.
The two stars here are for the service and the restaurant room/environment itself, both of...
