I enjoyed an afternoon in Windsor and chose The Carpenters Arms because, after perusing several menus online, I found that they seemed to be the only old-style English pub in town with an enticing vegan option, the Aubergine and Harissa burger. I asked if they could substitute the fries with a small side salad and that was no problem. That side salad was better than any side salad I've had anywhere. The burger was very tasty and paired well with a nice pub ale. I sat just outside the pub on Market Street which is a pedestrian alleyway running between Castle Hill and Church Lane. A quick and interesting aside here: Church Hill crosses High Street (B3022) to become ancient Peascod Street which predates the one thousand year old Windsor Castle itself. The wall of Windsor Castle is visible in part when you look northward up Market Street. You can see the tower and turret that make up the southwest corner point near King Henry VIII Gate. Though not ancient, The Carpenters Arms is in fact a historic pub having roots dating back to 1844 and takes its name from the tradesmen who worked locally and would stop in for a pint. It has that old-style pub look and feel about it with rich, dark woodwork and cozy seating areas. Lots of history at Windsor to ponder while sipping on a beer. The Carpenters Arms is very well worth the stop. Fair prices, good food and beer selections, friendly service and nice presentation. A great little English pub in a beautiful historic town. I would stop in again without a doubt.

We had travelled to Windsor for our private business in the historic and special St George's Chapel just opposite. Train times and security etc made us decide to lunch here a fine old Nicholsons Pub. The staff were very busy but easily coped with my large group. Drinks and food ordered from the bar. I tried to use my app but almost zero 4G so tried to log onto Pub wifi without success. I need not have worried the ordering was dead easy at the bar Food is geared to tourists which is understandable of course so you see limited light bites / sarnies in favour of Ye Olde English Pies!! I had salmon open on sourdough at £9.25 which was all I needed and tasty. Some might be disappointed with the quantity on the plate and the salmon was not especially special which looses its flavour served with a bowl of onions! But it was alright. Others took a range of meals and the pies were especially well received by all that chose that food option. Fantastic range of beers and nobody could be other than impressed - just shows you the beer turnover to keep that lot fresh from the barrel. Great service by the two bar staff pouring drinks and providing table service. Not easy in center of Windsor and so many hospitality venues. So Bravo.

We spent the day in Windsor doing a little shopping. As weather had really quickly turned cold we needed to warm up and eat as we were near starving. Anyway we were actually going to try a tea room close by but they closed a good 50 minutes early and so this was our next option and I think the much better one. It was just what we needed. Nice hot food to fill our bellies. I had a vegetarian toad in the hole and my sister had gammon 2 eggs and chips. Both were delicious and filled us up no end. Of course they adhered to all covid safety measures. One of the best bits is that they have a pretend dungeon downstairs to amuse the customers. My sister found it quite amusing. I m sure it is a listed building as it definitely looked like one of those old type pubs which I liked. The place was clean and tidy. The prices were reasonable too, good value for money especially when you consider some places give you poultry amounts. Staff were super friendly. Definitely stop by there again when in the area.

If I could give no stars to write this review, i would have.... FOOD HYGIENE STORY COMING UP.....

Dreadful experience! And for a pub in a tourist attraction town!

We went here for my friends birthday last night, with a table reserved for her.

We were directed to the table by staff.

We popped our things at the table (nothing worth stealing or so we believed...and definitely not by staff members!) and went to the bar to order our round of drinks.

While being all of 5 steps away a member of staff took it upon themselves to remove the birthdays girls cake, left over dinner from another restaurant and singing candles.

While this may not seem important its a worrying fact when we approach the staff to question where the items had gone, they informed us they had rummage through the bags took out what they wanted and binned the rest. Without asking us. Although we received an apology (from the "manager")

They then felt it was OK to remove these from the bin to return to us, while standing in the pub trying to convince us that the items inside where safe even through they had been in said bin!!! FOOD HYGIENE 1-0-1 FAIL! disgusting! ("manager" present while all taking place and not preventing this offering...vom!)

This wasn't the only issue we had, when ordering a pint of Doombar I returned to my seat only to see there was a thick cloudy substance at the bottom of my glass (if I could write what this looked like I would but ill leave your minds to guess ). I return this to the bar who replaced it with another option. All seeming fine I turned around and notice all the pull pints where now turned off leaving me with yet another ale that I wasn't sure was safe to drink....also containing a cloudy look (i refused to drink this).

This pub needs a serious...

Came in here yesterday for lunch as it was well-located, in a nice area of Windsor near the castle and the reviews looked promising. However, quite a few things sorely missing from the overall experience despite the place having a nice atmosphere and good decorm

Firstly, no table service at all which I understand for a pub that doesn't do food but really impacts on the overall experience.

Went to the bar to order food only to be met with a surly woman who gave such bad attitude she might as well have rolled her eyes at me. I'd come to help my partner order as English is not his first language. Ordered Sunday roast (at around 2pm) and was informed by her "we don't have Sunday roast". Why's it on signs around the restaurant then? And no apologies for the inconvenience or saying that it had run out, really poor customer service and creates an overall bad impression of the place.

Food when it arrived was okay but very bang average - I'd ended up taking the chicken & chorizo, and the chicken was very dry but the plate as a whole was okay. My partner said similar about the pie he ordered.

Overall, I'm sure other pubs in the area would have been a lot better value for money and at least would not have left us feeling completely unwelcome. Will not be returning next time...
