As an Indian and having studied in Goa plus as a hotelier I know my food.. entering to the restaurant I was not sure if it was the right choice as the place was busy, the staff were preparing a table of 10-12, for people who were waiting and although they saw us, continued the set up (strange).. I was like let’s go out but something inside me told me wait and finally after 5 minutes (when waiting it makes you feel 15mins) we were finally approached and taken to a table which was free.. But now my entire assumption was changed, the server was immediately to our table, the order taking was prompt (slightly unsure if they had the drink - Amrit whiskey) I was asking for. The drinks were quick to arrive and the food was Jet speed. The appetizers were delicious and the portion size was decent.. Our mains were also delivered promptly and this convinced me that the step by step service sequences followed must be really good. The server Ronaldinho (No guesses about his origin) and Beatrice were both professional and helpful. I also spoke to the restaurant manager while he was checking on us and shared my positives Only part I felt strange as I had asked to see the chef but although he was present, he kept himself away from our table while busy ensuring the other were checked on and surprisingly clearing tables (Especially his chutney sets), I guess they were short of it as we had never received it with our kebabs. Strangely he was right present while we were paying the bill but again refrained from interacting. Not sure if it was my heritage that kept him away. Just FYI, the restaurant gets quite loud as it’s more like a dining hall set up and the voice...
Read moreI have visited spice affairs 3 times in the last 2 years. The last two-time services and food were good. This time pathetic service was provided by Spice Affair. By looking at today's service I have decided to never visit Spice Affair in the future. I found the below problem in today's service - 1- Service: There was a long gap of more than 30 minutes in serving the main course after finishing the starter. I requested water and that too took 10 minutes to serve on the table after two times notifying staff. Similarly, I requested juice and the same happened with Juice, It took two times notice to serve it on the table. It seems like either they have a staff shortage or staff forget what customers ordered and they only focus on a few customers based on their parameters to identify who to serve well and whom to ignore. 2- Communication - When I asked why it's taking too long time, I got the response that we are very busy today hence there will be a delay. The response was not in a Polite way. 3- Food - I ordered Noodles, I mentioned making medium spicy and not too hot. They ignore or forgot my instruction and cooked too spicy which you can't eat. 4- The last - They didn't even serve hand wash service, I didn't ask them even and went in the washroom to clean my hand.
Such a waste of money and time by visiting Spice Affair. This was more seems like insulting myself by visiting...
Read moreThe Spice Affair is a great place to visit for dinner, whether you're looking for something traditional or want to try something new. The menu offers an array of delicious Goan dishes that you will not find elsewhere in Peterborough. From the Chouriço Assado – a Portuguese black pudding sausage flamed grilled – to the chef special dishes, there's plenty of unique flavours on offer here. My colleagues from Portugal and south India were both impressed with how authentic it was!
If you’re looking for somewhere different in Peterborough then 1498 The Spice Affair should definitely be top of your list! Not only does it provide excellent food but also an interesting story behind its identity; one which celebrates Goan cuisine and the Portuguese explorers who once reached India centuries ago. If nothing else, this restaurant will give you some conversation starters when dining out with friends or family.
The Wednesday and Sunday evening special offer is especially great...
