I have visited this tea rooms on several occasions and it quickly became my favourite, we would often pop in for afternoon tea prior to lockdown. Finally managed to get back today for a birthday breakfast and I was so excited!
Sadly we noticed some difference... The place was not as clean as usual, back of seats dusty, even the cup and saucers had dirt on them I personally wiped away discreetly and continued. I was so saddened with the breakfasts we received. I would implore the owners to check the date on the sausages, I could not eat mine and past it to my partner, which then lead to a run to a toilet soon after. I have never tasted anything like it. The tomato, toast, egg was fantastic however 1 small mushroom per portion felt like I had been diddled! The tea was beautiful and the service was excellent. I should have said something there and then however I was a mix of shocked and saddened my favourite tea shop had served me this, I left it being my bday and not wanting to cause a fuss, however when myself and partner discussed the sausages afterwards we both agreed we had never tasted anything like it! My partner even commented on the cleanliness of the place without any comment from me, he usually would not notice something like this! I'm really not sure if I will return... A little bit gutted and wish I had raised it with the team! 16.50 for 2 breakfasts and neither of us were satisfied. Feel like I have lost my...
Read moreMy friend and I had Sunday lunch there yesterday and were absolutely delighted with the whole experience. We were greeted by a very friendly young man as soon as we walked in, who apologised as the table we'd reserved wasn't quite ready for us, but he found us another table and we were soon tucking in to a very delicious Roast dinner. I had the nut roast, my friend had the chicken. We were each brought separate side dishes of vegetables that were hot and cooked just right. We shared a bowl of really good roast potatoes, crispy on the outside and nice and fluffy on the inside. The gravy was also just the right consistency and tasted as good as everything else. For dessert I had the Apricot and almond sponge with custard, my friend had the knickerbocker glory. The sponge and custard were homemade and both were delicious . Overall, we couldn't find any fault whatsoever with the food, the presentation or the staff. Everything was perfect and we were so pleased we had chosen the Abbey tea rooms . Well done to all the staff, but especially their...

We visited the Abbey Tea Rooms in Glastonbury yesterday and were really disappointed — especially considering how lovely this place used to be. It's hard not to wonder: what on earth has happened over the past few years?
The overall experience has really gone downhill. The place isn't dirty, but it's also not particularly clean — everything just feels a bit neglected. The customer toilet was grubby even the door was grubby and the facilities were poor overall.
The menu was very limited with a disappointing choice no fruit scones available, and the service was far from welcoming. It felt like the staff couldn’t really be bothered, and it definitely left us feeling like an inconvenience rather than a valued customer.
We weren’t the only ones either — everyone else around us was making similar comments, clearly noticing the same issues.
This place used to have charm and warmth. Now it feels like it's just going through the motions....
