5 stars but very contrasting visits just a day apart! This is always our usual fish and chip shop when we visit Whitby (usually two or three times a year). It blows the Magpie out the water with how good it is. The cod is OK but my word the haddock is absolutely outstanding. The chips are great and I don't think the prices are too bad considering the prices of the other chip shops in the area. We went on Saturday and the service/food was amazing as always. On the Sunday though, a different woman was very rude and clearly angry at any customer who didn't specifically state everything they needed upon entry. I politely asked if I could have our order wrapped rather than open after she had left it open and the responce was completely uncalled for by sighing loudly, slamming the open fish and chips into a takeaway box and literally crushing it until the box closed, before angrily telling me the price.... Hopefully just a one off! Also, the curry sauce is unfortunately the only think lacking here as it's more like an indian curry sauce rather than your usual chip shop...
Read moreStumbled upon this place and so glad we did. There were a few people eating outside from cardboard boxes overlooked by a greedy seagull but looking inside i saw an elderly couple who seemed to be getting off so we waited and waited and our patience was eventually rewarded we got a table as there are only about three or four you have got to get there early or be lucky. Anyhow we ordered 2 fish and chips with mushy peas with a portion of tartare sauce. Greed got the better of me and to my shame i also ordered a battered sausage we added two bottles of water to wash it down. came to £23. Worth every penny. Absolutely beautiful fish chunky with a crisp batter. Only thing i can fault it with is that you have to eat it with those tiny wooden forks no big deal. If i visit Whitby again we will carry a couple of forks out with us. Didnt manage to finish the sausage. Serves me right. Go there you wont be...
Read moreGood Day, It has been such a pleasure in accepting the invitation to cross the threshold of such a wonderful establishment. The service received on every visit is always second to none. The consummately professional, attentive, personable and kind staff cater for your every need in exquisite fashion. The food is perfectly cooked every time and presented in a timely fashion. The layout is unique, creates a sociable and cosy environment and gives the opportunity to converse with the wonderful townsfolk and visitors to Whitby whilst eating. The price is competitive and exceptional value. I try to visit whenever I emerge from my crypt beneath the Abbey and descend the 199 steps, and I of course provide my protection to all whilst sampling the culinary delights. I wish you all the best and look forward to my next visit… Vlad Dracul III (Dracula)
