Visited Aurum on Saturday just passed with my partner who had never been before. We ordered our starters and after finishing the meal the main waiter (appeared to be manager)who sat us down originally come over to collect our plates; picking up all used cutlery in one hand and in turn flicking food across the table! Never have I seen anyone collect cutlery in this manner he even flicked food on his suit !
We both had the specials on the menu- Sea bream and pork tomahawk Once our mains arrived I was surprised to see the whole fish on my plate, (which I’ve not experienced before ) It really put me off and so I cut the head off The fillets were still very much intact, I called over the waiter and I mentioned I would like the fish cut into fillets and presented so it was easier to eat Instead of taking my plate away he took my knife and folk and span the plate round to cut the fish in half He did this in such a rush that he cut the tail off and it shot across the tablet onto the floor. He then swiftly walked off ! I was shocked to be honest and the female waitress come over to see if I was ok I explained how disappointed I was that he did this infront of me and didn’t just take my plate away to prepare the fish how i had politely asked. She explained she could swap the food but I didn’t want to be eating separately to my partner who had started his food Shortly after the guy walked past again and made eye contact, I said I was disappointed again that some of the fish went on the floor, he smirked, shrugged his shoulders and said “sorry!”
Quality of the food was good but the service by the manager wasn’t what I would consider an a la carte service.
Not sure I’ll go back...
Read moreArrived 4pm (my son had moved our table back from 3pm) but staff didn’t appear to be aware so looked at us as if we had arrived an hour late.
Ordered some drinks , wine got brought over a glass instead of a bottle , then when this was pointed out, the bottle, was the more expensive version was presented.
Eventually what we had ordered arrived.
Food Salmon no sides and wasn’t advised. So two tiny pieces of Salmon arrived and we had to order a side which arrived after the main dish was finished . My beer battered cod Fish and chips had to go back as cod batter was inedible soggy and the size childlike, literally was like it had been brought from Iceland! Turkey okay but one rock hard potato on the plate, 3 Brussels and a couple of carrots.
My fish got re cooked but everyone had finished eating by then, and when I was eating they started dragging furniture about whilst mid service it was like a school canteen, not a high dining experience. My son raised the complaint as our whole ‘experience’ was definitely not 5 star and Boxing Day treat far from it!
Very disappointed with the manager /owners response To our concerns, as a customer who has frequented often , the attitude that we was received with when raising concerns means this venue will not be...
Read moreCame here for breakfast over the weekend. Despite being very quiet, it took some time for the food to come out. When the food did finally arrive, my partner mentioned that he could taste everything on his plate was cooked on the one surface i.e. it all tasted the same (he had the English breakfast). Being my second time at the restaurant, I have to say that the atmosphere is a little off and more so on this occasion. Too many raised voices and shouting into the kitchen by the staff which is not necessary as it’s not a loud restaurant at all. Not sure why a quiet word over the kitchen counter or in the kitchen itself won’t suffice. And then there was a moment when my partner asked for some water, only for the server, an older gent, to point to the table in the middle and said ‘it’s there’ before walking off. A small piece of advice, tell the customer that they are welcome to help themselves to the water as they are seated at the table, otherwise it doesn’t take much to pour out a glass for them. There were only 3 tables in the restaurant so again, not like they were busy. The young brunette lady with the glasses who also served us was lovely. A Little more polite and discreet. Perhaps she should head up some customer service training for the rest...
