We had an absolutely wonderful experience! I booked tickets for room 13 for and my boyfriend and it far exceeded our expectations. I booked the tickets as a surprise for my boyfriend and when I revealed the surprise activity to him he relayed that he had a fear of hospitals, which worried the both of us as room 13 is hospital themed. Upon our arrival we met with our games master who was a lovely woman named Vendela. We expressed to her that my boyfriend has a fear of hospitals and she very kindly explained the layout and general feel of room 13. She explained it was more eery than horrifying and that the room displays more of an emphasis on puzzles as opposed to terror. Following Vendela’s comfort we felt significantly more confident and began to look forward to our slot. When the time came Vendela gave us the procedural run down of how to escape room 13. We entered the room and were delighted to find that Vendela’s description of eery was very much accurate. The set up, props, music and general aesthetic of the room was very cinematic. We thoroughly enjoyed working through the puzzles and were delighted to find that Vendela could see and hear us whilst we were in there so if we were close to cracking a puzzle she would push us in the right direction on our walkie talkie. Me and my bf have previously been to escape rooms but we have never experienced constant communication with the games master which was something we were very grateful for. Another element we really enjoyed was how the puzzles were quite challenging, we very much had to use our brains. We escaped with 4 mins to go and were extremely proud of ourselves :) overall we really enjoyed the escape room however Vendela’s friendliness and helpfulness definitely made the experience significantly more enjoyable. She’s a brilliant member of staff! We will definitely...
Read moreLocated in a small doorway between two shops hides this gem of an event, hit the buzzer and the friendliest staff voice ushers you to step through the doorway and up the stairs to their reception. There, you'll be greeted by an enthusiastic staff member, (in my case the perfect Daisy), who will bestow upon you the rules and regulations to follow in order to have the most enjoyable and fun experience trying to escape one of their puzzle rooms. Once armed with the foreboding story you'll be led into the puzzle room and locked in; be prepared for galvanising every brain matter you can muster, for each clue leads to another in an almost frantic buzz to reveal the answers and unweave the plot lines that unfold, in your quest to discover what truths will lead to tour eventul freedom. You and your team will have one hour to solve the mystery and escape intact, but don't panic, you'll have some helpful hints from staff along your journey should you need them - but beware, the helpful hints are limited so use them sparingly and wisely. A thoroughly good time had by all (partner, myself and son), didn't manage to escape in time but came very close, it was gripping, tense, suspenseful and greatly puzzling all throughout. Highly recommended for a thrilling hour of wit testing and couldn't ask for more perfect staff member (Daisy) who's help and instruction were spot-on, and who's enthusiasm pulled us into the story. Without doubt a brilliant experience and I will go again and again....

We did the Pirate Plunder escape room at Escape Live Southend, and it was absolutely ace. It was our first ever escape room, so we weren’t sure what to expect, but it turned out to be a fantastic experience for all five of us - two adults and three kids (13 and 9-year-old twins).
The puzzles were really well pitched: challenging enough to make us think, but never so hard that they became frustrating. Everyone got stuck in, and even our teenager was properly engaged, which says it all. The whole setup was immersive and great fun from start to finish.
A special shout-out to our host, Amy, who was brilliant throughout. She knew exactly when to drop a subtle hint over the radio to keep things moving, without ever spoiling the satisfaction of working things out ourselves. That balance made all the difference.
We escaped with 2 minutes and 30 seconds to spare, feeling triumphant and grinning like idiots. For a first escape room experience, it couldn’t have been better. Highly recommend Pirate Plunder - we’ll definitely be back to...
