The experience was less than I was expecting at Bettys, Northallerton..
Firstly I want it to be noted that I am really appreciative that Betty's makes the effort to cater for customers with food allergies. This is not always easy so I am grateful. As a coeliac I have no choice but to have gluten free foods; not doing so would make me very ill indeed.
Today my husband and I both chose to have a light lunch and selected sandwiches. My husbands sandwich was made using really tasty, healthy bread whereas the NGCI bread that was made to make my sandwich, was of a really poor quality. It was very chewy and of little substance.
I was really surprised that Betty's would use and serve such a low quality produce. There are a lot of bakeries who make their own gf breads which are of a much higher standard than Betty's served to me today. It was very disappointing and actually spoiled the sandwich.
I understand that Betty's sourcing a higher quality bread would cost more, but in fairness to those people who have a serious food allergy, more effort could be made in finding a quality product, even if the cost has to be passed on to the customer.
I understand gf foods cost more but I think it's important to note that customers with food allergies are paying the same as other other customers and therefore deserve the same quality of produce.
I really do think Mr Frederick Belmont would be turning in his grave to see the poor quality bread I was served today!
I am sure Betty's always wishes to provide a positive experience for all its customers; sadly, today it really let me as a...
Read moreLovely lunch Chicken Snitchzel. They were so accommodating to swap tomatoes on dish for mushrooms as I cannot eat for dietary requirements. The meal was lovely chicken was tender & only problem for me it was too much so my other half helped out & we have a spoilt dog at home who enjoys her doggy bag when I get home. They accommodatee drinking water as other drinks don't suit my dietary requirements & gave me a full glass of icecubes as such a hot day & registered 31.5 temperature on our car! Everything cold was warming up and as I only drink ice-cold water they even brought me another glass of icecubes! They tended to us well asking if all was OK? It's our guilty pleasure when we go to Northallerton. Today I treat my husband it's nice to be nice! If you've never tried Betty's we can honestly vouch for it. Always good, always consistent, Always hit, cooked to order but not too long a wait. They also do children's meals & if you have a small appetite you could have eaten off children's menu! Oh & if you wish to buy from the cake shop to take a naughty treat home they will put in fridge for you. Collect when you leave. You pay & take your name. Saves missing out on you're naughty but nice treats as we have found out & been disappointed in the past! There is great choice & seasonal specials too! No photo's as would be rude to take photo's when you're meal would be going cold! Not cheap but quality costs but it's fresh & not what you would call processed or freely available at the supermarkets. & Bettys was first established in 1919. Still...
Read moreWe called at the Northallerton branch on Wednesday it was our wedding anniversary and wanted something different from our usual anniversary meal I've wanted to go to Betty's for quite a while and was happy when the queue wasn't that long, we waited 20 minutes, I was ready for going somewhere else but my husband said no wait if it's longer than 20 minutes we will go somewhere else. Just on the 20 minutes a very nice lady came to show us to our table then a waitress came to take our order, again very polite we both had the traditional afternoon tea. Asked if we had any allergies which we haven't. She went away then came back very quickly with the afternoon tea, no choice of sandwiches, just this one previously prepared also no choice of drink just tea. Very small sandwiches tiny infact salmon which neither if us like ham, coronations chicken, and a soft cheese, one scone each which you can get in any supermarket in a packet, jam & cream was nice, then miniature cakes a very sickly orange sponge a lime batternburg equally sickly and a chocolate square which by then we'd had enough sweetness and took home, there was an over load of sweetness not at all balanced come on Betty's £29.95 each you are taking the Michael. I've been for quite a few afternoon teas and this didn't compare at all and quantity very poor sandwiches and cake selection was zero not worth £29.95 won't be...
