Ontano Lounge — Restaurant in England

Wavering between 3 and 4 stars, the menu and ambience promised so much however a few minor things added up to a disappointing experience for us which is a shame as we were having a small celebration. Firstly we were greeted pleasantly and told half an hour wait for food which we accepted as would have a drink; after a long wait for someone to take our order we were told to order at the bar - Yes this was on the board at the door however this was obscured as we entered (later heard other waiting staff specifically telling customers this). Therefore sat a long time with no drink or food. Upon ordering we specifically requested if the salad was made to order each time "Yes, it is", perfect - so ordered minus the red onion, also no onion in the other plate. Got to the bottom of the salad, after wondering why tasted strange, to find the missed red onion that hadn't been picked out in the kitchen ie not made fresh to order :-( . Our other plate was beetroot and feta flat bread - again this contained spring onion. Although otherwise tasty it was extremely difficult to cut the flatbread, a suggestion would be to serve the flatbread in wedges on the side to use as a scoop. No-one came to enquire, as is usual, how everything was, hence no feedback left in the Lounge. In the Ladies - one cubicle = no toilet roll available, another cubicle = seat broken - not the standard expected given the 'feel' of the place and...

Attended Sunday afternoon for spot of lunch, initially received a warm greeting and procedure was explained carefully.

On ordering the food and drinks (at the bar because I wanted a variation to menu) I returned to find someone else directed into my seat.. after the embarrassment of that managed to get seated.

The drinks were brought promptly and were very good ( as was the bar server)

Food itself arrived fairly quickly however it was not entirely as I’d hoped.

The macaroni cheese was over cooked flabby pasta and the cheese sauce underwhelming

The steak frites was bland and again uninspiring.

Staff were dressed in casual clothes to add to the relaxed vibe of the place… however some looked like they didn’t want to be there others were constantly touching their hair while serving plates .

The main host was very professional.

So in short food was expensive passable at best and small portions. Noticed lots of unfinished plates as we left.

For what looks like a sparkling dining experience from the outside, it was pretty lacklustre within. The waitress at the bar looked sick of her life, could not tell us what drinks were part of the Monday deal, "just say a drink and I'll press a button on the till to see if it's included" could have taken a while. My partner's meal of choice was out of stock along with the pasta dish. After we did order, one of our party's dishes was missed of the service, they apologised for this and prioritised the order, but even then did not have the buttered chicken included in the meal in stock, so it was just normal chicken, no complimentary offers or discount offered to make up for this, pretty poor, the food was actually tasty tho, but rather meagre portions for the price.
