Bewiched Coffee Northampton — Restaurant in England

I normally like Bewiched. On this occasion I visited the Grosvenor centre in Northampton only to be taken aback with the place. There was only 1 member of staff present (a black guy) who was serving someone ahead of me. Whilst he was attending to the other person another guy appeared behind the counter and although he saw me, merely mooched about doing nothing in particular until the black guy finished serving the previous customer and came past the other man to serve me. He was very smart; and polite as he took my order. Then a girl staff member came in and looked like she too was doing nothing. The black guy brought my food to the table and went back to the counter where he started washing up crockery. Additionally there were tables to be cleared and wiped down but the other two weren't helping and I couldn't help but notice how grubby the surfaces were in the work area and there were cleaning materials where food was served. To put this in perspective I am white and in no way connected with the food industry but very disappointed...

Sunday morning went to get our drinks and a young lady took our orders and somehow messed these two orders up and overcharged us, keyed in the wrong drinks which I hadn’t found out until after I’d already paid! It wasn’t busy she was just not focused on her job. The barista then came over asking what we ordered noticing that it’s not matching up with what it says on the till. Asked I’ve overpaid and they reluctantly said yes but ONLY by a certain amount! I was over charged and promised a refund- which was over a week ago! No apology! No refund received! Very poor customer service! It was “Off” from when we entered- we weren’t greeted as we came in or when approached the counter like the couple before us - nope - straight in to “what would you like” It all seemed like we very much inconvenienced and interrupted their conversation with customers before us. Great cappuccino and sublime chocolate muffin. Lovely team too.

UPDATE Oct 2023 What happened to your coffee? It was the best cappuccino in town but today 29 October it was undrinkable. Watery luke warm and so weak it couldn't be called coffee. Have you changed to cheap coffee or is it because you've replaced an excellent team with a third rate one? Very disappointed.

UPDATE July 2024 I do like your new much larger venue downstairs in Northampton's Grosvenor Centre. Coffee good though I order extra hot now, as your airconditioning is pretty fierce. It's good to have a lot more space though along with that comes more noise - it does get very loud in here sometimes.

It's good to have some of the same team from the 'old' venue too.

That said, you are still one of my two 'go to' coffee places in the town centre. I'm glad...
