First time at this restaurant. I live in Hartlepool and I participate in diversity and ethnic inclusion discussions with Borough Council officials. I patronize various restaurants in our area. So to experience this was definitely one to bring to the discussion. We walked the marina restaurants and I stopped here because the bacon & cheese smashed burger looked good. Which it turned out was delicious. However, our experience as 2 ethnic individuals with one particular employee ‘Phil’ left a very bad taste in our mouths. To be clear, the young lady Caitlyn was worked off her feet. She deserves a raise. She was polite and helpful and understandably stressed. Her cohort, Phil, on the other hand was blatantly rude, dismissive and clearly lazy, ( due to who he was clearly not wanting to serve…us). When we arrived, the only shaded table was covered heavily in bird excrement. We kindly requested it cleaned. Caitlyn came to clean it but was doing triple duty of bar maid, waitress and porter so she had to stop mid stream. Phil reluctantly came to finish and after literally two wipes, looked over and gruffly told us this will need a deep clean and we should sit elsewhere. It will take 30 mins. To wipe off a table??? Ok Phil whatever you say. We then retreated to in doors. We were the only table inside. And did I mention, the only ethnic ppl in the whole establishment. So anyway, I ordered from the bar, (the app did not work). We started our meal and my friend wanted a little more dressing for her salad. Phill was collecting condiments so we asked him if he could bring us some. He said yes then went outside to a table. When he came inside, he came back to us and said, I quote verbatim: “I spoke to the chef, he said there’s no more dressing. It only comes with what you get. You cannot have any more!” I thought, You’re kidding right! You do realize we watched you go outside and you haven’t been inside to the chef?! When Caitlyn returned I asked her for the manager but she was apparently was on holiday. Bad staff make for a bad experience. I will go back next week and speak to her. I will also share our experience with Phil on Yelp and TripAdvisor Does he treat all black patrons this way?

We really stumbled onto this place while trying to find the tall ship at the Naval museum. Go past the museum and at the roundabout take the exit to the marina. It's removed from the busy A19 but there are a wealth of pubs and restaurants back there. The Black Olive looks pretty inconspicuous from outside. Inside it's quite lush with luxe velvety furnishings and crystal chandeliers. We had the Black Oliver burger and really enjoyed it. It came with a lovely fresh crisp side salad. The chips were truly handcut and triple baked. The beef burger was made from nice ground chuck. The staff were friendly and used down time to clean. Beautiful setting on the marina and there are two ice cream shops in the same area.

Went here today ordered the chicken parmo and my partner ordered the slow cooked beef and mash I couldn't eat the parmo as it was pink on the inside the chef said it was deep fried and cooked properly it was just the veins, but in my experience it didn't taste right and definitely wasn't cooked or they had got bad product ordered in. My partner said the beef wasn't fresh beef it was store bought in. The girl at the bar offered to make me another one or something else, but I lost my appetite at this point and just left she also offered me a drink, but I told her I'm driving. Not a good experience.

My husband booked us a table for mother days (today) arriving just before our 1 o clock reservation we were seated. Bearing in mind not many people were in and tables were already leaving...we waited 10.minute's for someone to come and take our order . And here is the bizarreness of it .... only took our starter choices and proceeded to walk away ... we shouted her back and asked her if she would also like to take our main course too........ for a restaurant that was not even busy no food seemed to be coming out.... Our starters were very basic .. nothing too much... potato skins, chicken wings and 2 x goujons .... it got to a point where there is only so many questions you can answer from. Their tv screens before becoming bored ..... an hour had passed , noone had been to our table to see if we were OK, if we needed anymore drinks or even explain, if there was a delay on food.... my husband went to find someone to see how long the food would be .. no-one in sight....... it appeared the table next to us were also in the same predicament and they had arrived before us ....... after 5 or so minute's we decided to leave over an hour on the premises and nothing to show for it . We...

Service leaves little to be desired. Complained whilst there about lack of service waited 40 mins for someone to bring our drinks over and take our food order and only got service in the bed cos I got up for a third time to get attention. Meal came without creamy sauce as on menu and was dry chicken and potatoes. When I complained apparantly the chef said it was a new menu even though I have eaten in there loads and got exact same dish. I had to wait for sauce which was like water and by time it arrives was not much of my meal left as would have gone cold. When I complained at the bar I was told it was a new chef and to just write a bad review. After being ignored on Facebook page for over a week I finally got a response saying thank u for feedback and would be dealt with. No apology whatsoever. I have since e mailed them twice over a week ago and still no response whatsoever. I and my family will not...
