Bobby’s Restaurant – A Disastrous Dining Experience

⭐ 0/5 – Avoid at All Costs

I visited Bobby’s today, hoping for a pleasant meal, but unfortunately, it turned out to be one of the worst dining experiences I have ever had. From the moment I stepped in, the service was appalling, and the food was nothing short of a disaster.

Customer Service – Non-Existent

The staff were disinterested, unprofessional, and seemed completely unbothered by the presence of customers. We were left waiting far too long before even being acknowledged, and when we finally placed our order, it felt like we were inconveniencing them. No smiles, no courtesy, just a robotic approach to taking orders. It seemed as though they had no training in hospitality or customer service.

Food – Overpriced and Tasteless

For the price they charge, one would expect at least a decent meal, but the food was shockingly bad. Bland, poorly presented, and utterly lacking in flavour. It was clear that minimal effort had gone into preparation, and the ingredients used did not seem fresh. Even the simplest dishes were a letdown.

The starters were cold and uninspiring.

The mains were either underseasoned or overcooked beyond recognition.

Even the drinks seemed watered down and below standard.

Given the price point, the food should have at least been edible, but instead, it felt like a complete rip-off.

Ambience – Unwelcoming

The atmosphere of the restaurant was just as uninviting as the food and service. The place lacked warmth, and there was no effort to create a pleasant dining experience. Tables were not properly cleaned, and the overall vibe was dull and lifeless.

Final Verdict

This restaurant should not be open in its current state. The owners seriously need to reconsider their approach to food and customer service before they inevitably lose business. At the very least, they should invest in proper training for staff, improve the quality of ingredients, and most importantly, focus on delivering a dining experience that justifies the high prices.

Until then, I would strongly advise avoiding this place. There are far better restaurants where you will actually receive good food and...

I don't usually give one star but this place left me with no other star.

I visited this restaurant on Saturday 26/08/2023 at 12:40. I was all by myself and as soon as I entered the restaurant none of the staff assisted me which is understandable as the restaurant was busy.

I managed to get a seat for myself and settled down and called the waitress as I was ready to order but the waitress refused and said your order will be taken as per the table number. Now, this actually confused me but later I understood that they might have a system of taking the orders by table numbers, my table number was 17, so I patiently waited for a server to come but after some time another waitress comes and asked me to change my table as a huge group was waiting outside which is acceptable and then she stared finding a table for me as the restaurant was busy I tried to suggest her a vacant table but the waitress didn't even bother to look at and replied me that 'No I wil tell you the where to sit' in an impolite way and I accepted that and got settled on a different table.

Then, few more customers came in and I got suprised because there orders were taken immediately,I tried to call the serves once again but again no one bothered but again I decided to wait for last 5 minutes as I thought their might be a system and process but again no one bothered to serve me and take my order.

I decided to leave the place. I never had such a bad service in a restaurant. Especially Lecister a city which is well known for it's restaurants, their food and amazing service. Will never visit this place again they need to work on their service and should talk in a polite way. This is the first time I left a restaurant without eating and the worst part the staff didn't even bother about their customer.

Attaching a pic below just as a proof that I had a...

I’ve been hesitant to leave a review, but my experience yesterday was singularly the worst dining experience I’ve ever had. Ever. Made a 400 mile roundtrip for food here for my dad’s birthday and I feel like it was the biggest let down I’ve ever had. Seated at 5:15pm, nobody gave us menus or took a drinks order, had to get up and walk to staff members after waiting 30 minutes for those items. 15 minutes later, I had to get up and find a member of staff to come and take our order. Waited 30 minutes for food, got up yet again to ask a member of staff where the food was, everyone was evasive. Lost my rag in the end as at least six tables who came in well after us had been seated, dined and left in all the time we’d been there and hadn’t received food. Highlighted this to the only male waiter yesterday and said this is really poor performance as he wasnt tracking his tables by first come first serve, he decided to have a go back at me. Really lost my cool at that point, but kept a lid on it. In the end Mona sorted us out and food started to come to our table about 15 minutes after that. She apologised profusely for the shortcoming from staff. We’re very aware how hard the service industry has been hit by the pandemic, but this was beyond shambolic. A real shame as my family has been coming here for well over 30 years as a special treat, but I shall not be making that journey again. Mediocre food yesterday, terrible service. Very thankful to Mona for seeing us right, but I don’t think I’ll be back. Such a shame to ruin an otherwise...

The best place for Indian food in Leicester…just ask Rick Stein! I've been coming to Bobby's for over 20 years, and each time the quality and service remain exceptional. It was fantastic to see this recognition in Rick Stein's Food Stories. The food is always freshly prepared, and the chai is absolutely delicious. The flavours are rich and complex, with a spice level that can be tailored to your liking—perfect for me, as I'm not great with spice! What truly sets Bobby’s apart, though, is the outstanding service. The staff, managers, and owners go above and beyond to make you feel welcome, often greeting you personally at your table with recommendations and eagerly seeking feedback. I frequently bring friends and family here, and they’re always impressed, especially since they never miss the lack of meat on the menu. They offer plenty of vegan and gluten-free dishes and cater to all! As an Indian, I’m very particular about where I enjoy Indian food—nothing compares to home-cooked meals. But Bobby’s has become a true comfort spot for me. The food is always warming, homely, and satisfying. With a menu featuring Gujarati classics and inventive Indo-Chinese twists, I always look forward to my personal favourites: aubergine stir-fry, papdi chaat and crispy bhajia! Their Indian inspired afternoon tea is exceptional, with plenty of sweet and savoury options and drinks choices - it’s a lovely treat for a celebration! I’ve recommended Bobby’s to countless friends, and I’ll continue to do so without hesitation.

Bobby's has a great ambiance - the colour scheme, flooring, table layout, sweet deli, chaat counter and everything else. The staff members are kind and welcoming. The menu is varied with chats, south Indian dishes, Gujarati delicacies, breads, rice, Indo-Chinese, drinks and desserts. Of course everything is vegetarian but they offer a myriad of gluten free and vegan dishes as well. The service is swift and we family of 4 with an order of 3 course meal each were done within 40 minutes. Despite all that, the food which should have been the real show stopper given the settings, was actually quite disappointing. Indian food is known for its strong flavours and here at Bobby’s there were no flavours at all. Pani puri was sweet, special chaat was too sweet, chole bhature was completely bland, haka noodles were sweet and the Mumbai sandwich was filled with bland potatoes and cheese. The real disappointment was the masala tea, which tasted like hot water infused with cinnamon. Comparing Bobby’s to the other restaurants around - ChaiPaani, Chaiwala, Shiv Sagar - it is quite average. The sweet takeaway from the deli however is quite good. Every sweet has a distinct flavour. I do not have a sweet tooth though so it’s not something I particularly devoured. Since they have recently renovated/extended their premises I hope they do plan on revising their flavours as well.
