We have visited Mitch Masala multiple times before, but this was by far the most unwelcoming experience we’ve had at any restaurant in Leicester. The staff member serving us was abrupt and clearly more focused on closing the restaurant than providing a good dining experience—despite the fact that there was still an hour left until closing time.
When we arrived, we asked if they were still open, and while the response was “yes,” it was delivered in such an abrupt manner that we were left confused about whether we were actually welcome. Once seated, we noticed that all the tables had been pre-set for the next day, and we were placed at an uninviting table. When we requested to move to a nicer spot by the window, the staff member refused at first, but when we insisted, he simply walked off without a word.
The food was equally disappointing. We ordered a Chilli Paneer, a vegetarian pizza, and a plain Dosa. The plain Dosa was fine, but the Chilli Paneer was drenched in sauce—more like a pasta dish than an Indo-Chinese meal. The vegetarian pizza was so basic that it looked like something a child could make in a school cooking class. To make matters worse, a hoover was left in the middle of the restaurant, and during our meal, the staff started hoovering at full volume, making it clear they wanted us to leave.
When we ordered a second Dosa, it arrived burnt. I took it to the counter to request a replacement, but instead of an apology, I was met with attitude. The staff member asked, “Why do you want another one?” and only after repeating myself did he snatch the plate from my hand. He eventually brought another one, with the chef staring at us from across the restaurant, making us feel even more uncomfortable.
This experience has completely changed our perception of Mitch Masala. The unwelcoming attitude and lack of hospitality made us feel like a burden rather than valued customers. Unfortunately, we won’t be returning and wouldn’t recommend it to anyone looking for a pleasant...
Read moreVery disappointed. This was the restaurant that started the fully vegetarian experience for me during my years at Uni in Leicester. Everytime friends and family ever asked where to eat I would recommend Mirch Masala. Their flavours used to be Vibrant and Exotic to my tastes buds. Now I wish I never visited the place with my family. It all started with a wobbly table which we requested to be moved, then we recieved plates that were dirty, which I returned for replacements. Portions have reduced by half, naans were not fresh but pre made (packet naans) and heated. Paneer dosa was bland and soggy, which did not look as if it was made from rice flour. Chilli Mushrooms were very oily and watery. The Chilli Paneer had triple the amount of garlic which over powered all others tastes. 9" Pizza for £10, we used to get the family size for that price before. I asked "why i can't have the family size pizza", the service guy said " Covid any bro" ?. I was confused. Drinks were over prices for a small glass of diet coke which at the end of the meal they slapped a 10% Charge for an awful experience we encountered without any warning. Service staff was day dreaming. I know there was a set back with the fire but I wasn't expecting a set back on the food quality that I loved through the last 15 years plus of visiting your Establishment. I have never given anyone a 1 star as I can remember. I will visit again and I hope the food quality improves...
Read moreWent to Mirch Masala with my mum and we both regret it.
We only ordered Dahi Puri, Samosa Chaat, and Paneer Chips and they sneakily added £3 on top of the service charge without informing us. For just two people and three small items, this extra charge was completely unjustified. They didn’t even show us the receipt and so it just felt so sly, and if I’m being honest it felt so deceitful like they knew we wouldn’t question it until it was too late. (They only gave us the receipt once we had paid for the food).
If the food was amazing, I wouldn’t even care but it just wasn’t and that’s why it’s annoying.
The Dahi Puri – Looked nice, but was absolutely drowning in yogurt. There was no balance in flavor – I could barely taste the sev or chutneys. Honestly, I could have just had plain yogurt at home, and it would have been better.
Samosa Chaat – Mum said it was nothing special, just standard.
Paneer Chips – Probably the best of the three, ( and we just got this as a side LOL) but still just okay.
The staff were polite, but the service charge scam ruined it for us. We’ve been to other restaurants on Melton Road that serve WAY better food, with bigger groups of even 6 and more and never got hit with an unnecessary service charge. Other places provide way more service than Mirch Masala, where all they did was take our order, bring the food, and clear the plates. So what was the service charge for?
Just ridiculous. Don’t bother...
