We booked a meal last Saturday923rd July) for a birthday treat, when we arrived were left at the enterance for around 10 mins, and this was quite early in the evening, finally shown to the table by the window, so quite pleased with this. We ordered food, pizzas for the boys, lasagna for me and Spaghetti Bolognese for my wife. When the meals arrived which was a little wait but can understand as freshly cooked the Pizzas were fine but the the meals for the adults were a big disapointment... the lasagna was covered in loads of cheese and had loads of oil over the top, basically tasted of cheese and not the pasta and meat, a big let down, possibly one of the poorest Lasagna i have tasted, the Spagetti was even worse, absolutly no taste at all, nothing in the sauce and tasteless. Whwn we came to order dessert, the waiter plonked down two chalk boards with about 4 choices, nothing like what was on the menu, when we asked for a ice cream sundee was told that was not available, my son pointed out that less than two tables from us a customer was eating a strawberry ice cream sundie, flustered the waiter said he could have Sticky Toffee pudding sundie, this seemed to be a concoction he was making himself, it came out swiming in coco powder and bits of Sticky toffee pudding, it tasted disgusting and my son would have been happy with the strawberry alternative which a lady had on a table adjacent to us which was supplied without any fuss!!. he left half of it. After then asking for the bill waited nearly 10 mins before i went upto the desk and reminded them i was waiting for the bill. Just glad that the birthday boy enjoyed his meal, having said that he eats almost anything as long as it is a plain pizza!! We left almost over two hours after entering which if we had taken the other booking that was offered to us at 8.30 we would have been leaving at around 10.45!! Lovely setting but shame that the food did not match up, its our first visit to the Portishead establishment, although they used to be in Nailsea and had a couple of very under par meals, there so i think this is one place when looking to go "Italian" we...

A small group of 6 visited this restaurant on a Wednesday, it was just after 18:00. Four of us took advantage of the special offer, two courses for £12.99 before 18:30 (as advertised on the menu). That was for a starter and a main dish.
I chose to have the lasagne, and for my previous experiences from both in Nailsea and Weston-super-Mare (now shut down), I knew this was going to be good.
Two others on the group also had the same.
What came out was a total shock for me. Two of them were under half the dish and mine was just a quarter of what you would normally get. Slightly dry on one side to the point you could actually see with dish bottom and didn't look very appetising at all.
I questioned it, "what's this?", why is a portion so small and dry. "I'll see the chef and ask". They took it back and it was more than ten minutes later before another one came out. A bit better, but... Wow, the presentation of the food was terrible and it was just about half full (and they are not that big a dish).
His explanation, because I was having a special, we wouldn't get anywhere near as much as a normal priced dish. He actually said that.
What..!? What sort of answer is that?
And that is true, other dishes were coming out full and better presented.
Well.. Guess what?
I'll be eating elsewhere, where the presentation and quality of the food they serve, they would give to their own family and friends.
The quality of food should be exactly the same whether it be full price or in their so-called "special offer".
One more thing I've never seen in other Bottelino's. How the staff seem to be deliberately averting eye contact with you when approaching 18:30. Is this so you can't place an order before that time? It was quite funny to a point trying various staff members. Even when you did get someone's attention to place an order, they still don't return.
I'm not impressed at all, so much so, I've written this as soon...
Read moreI wanted to love the take away experience with Botellinos, but I have to say that I was left very disappointed.
The service was good when ordering and receiving delivery, although the food turned up just over an hour after ordering. To be fair it was a Friday though...
After enthusiastically opening the box, we were greeted by a stone (cold) base pizza. I called up to inform the manager who was very courteous n offered to send a full replacement free of charge. Upon arrival we were also given some luxury chocolates. Excellent service IMO. However, when we opened the new box the pizza was hot, but the cheese had flopped to one side - probably due to being dropped... Due to the excellent service we decided not to call again and chowed down. The pizza was pretty poor, with low quality meat n no flavour...
We then proceeded to try the carbonara with grilled chicken as extra - a safe bet we assumed. Wrong! The dish completely lacked flavour n had very low quality cuts of meat. The chicken was undercooked and the ham tasting like something that had been taken out of a can, cooked, cooled and reheated.
As I said at the start of this review, I wanted to love this restaurant, especially as I am local to Portishead... The service was great, it's just a shame that the food...
