Firstly, staff very friendly and helpful!
But sadly, Byron is overpriced.
The burgers are small by todays standards, elsewhere I'd estimate you could get a burger almost twice the size for the same price (double stacker) Having to pay for basic sides is disappointing to see.
The cheapest fries are £3.95 and it's an extra £1 on top of the price of your burger if you want a vegan patty (really?) all this when you’re already paying ~£12 for the burger kind of ruined the meal for us. It's £3 for an extra meat patty too, so you'll pay a lot before even thinking about sides for a big feed. I will say there are cheaper burgers on the menu but they're pretty basic, more classic options and not as enticing as the specials. I was slightly underwhelmed by the options overall.
We had pints with our meal, they were great, but couldn't help noticing that a can of coke was 3.95 which seemed a little much, why not serve it from a machine in a glass for less?
The decor is industrial, would've been nice once but the booth seat we sat on was split open showing the foam inside and the table had a large scratch on it. Recommend you sit at the front of the restaurant!
I will say that the burger was really good, I can't fault the food, it was of quality. But we left hungry! Two burgers, pints and a side each ordered. The portions are just too small for the price, and it didn't feel like a fancier restaurant where you might be happy to spend a bit more for what you get.
It's standard in many places these days but worth noting you have to opt out of the 10% service charge/tip here.
There's nearby places (one sharing the name with a large African animal) which are much better value and offer a more modern menu with more options! And no tatty decor.
Once again, the staff were great and very helpful. And food good, but value wasn't...
Read moreI booked a table on their website and arrived 15 minutes before my booking. We waited in a crammed entryway with two other parties waiting to be seated. When it was our turn to be seated, I gave my name and the time the booking was for. The server (who appeared to be management) looked confused, as if he wasn't expecting us and couldn't seem to find my booking at first. He eventually found it on their system and took us to a table. However, it seemed like the table hadn't been reserved and was just a table that just happened to be empty. The decor of the place looked like they had just used any old, derelict tables and chairs they could find. It didn't look very good at all, especially compared to other Byron restaurants I've been to elsewhere in the country, that definitely looked a lot more high-end with nice booth tables. The food was really nice, we ordered the dirty byron burger and the cheesemas burger with fries. The burgers didn't come with fries, so these were an additional cost. Would definitely recommend the beef dripping mayo, it was amazing! We got the oreo milkshakes with a shot of Bailey's in, which were also unreal! However, the milkshakes definitely aren't what they used to be, they're nowhere near as thick as they were in the past. Our bill came to £61 including a service charge, which I also don't like that all restaurants seem to be adding on now. This isn't America, we get fair wages in the UK, there's just no need, especially when we got mediocre service at best and the manager who showed us to our seat...
Read moreHad never been to Byron before but had friends rave about it in London but never had the time while visiting there due to work and other commitments.
However, was pleasantly surprised when we arrived in York this mornin to see they had a location here.
If you’re in York and craving a burger that hits all the right notes, Byron is the spot. I still can’t decide what was better—the impossibly juicy, flavor-packed burgers or the five-star service from Aiden that made the whole experience sing.
🍔 The burgers? Absolute masterpieces. Perfectly seared patties, generous toppings, and buns that somehow manage to be both cloud-soft and golden-crisp. Every bite was a savory revelation that made me rethink everything I thought I knew about comfort food. Whether you’re into a classic cheeseburger or something stacked and adventurous, the kitchen delivers with flair and finesse.
🙌 Now, let’s talk about Aiden. What a legend. Warm, attentive, and effortlessly friendly—he made us feel like VIPs from the moment we walked in. His recommendations were spot-on, and he handled the whole evening with the kind of enthusiasm and charm that turned a great meal into a genuinely memorable experience.
💬 Byron York isn’t just a place to eat—it’s a place to savor. From its mouthwatering menu to standout service like Aiden’s, it’s a burger lover’s dream with hospitality that makes you want to come back...
