While on holiday in Looe, we met some friends who live locally and they recommended Catch as being the best chip shop in the whole town. They were right! On Saturday we had some chips, £2 for a good individual portion which was served in a box. Everything is cooked to order so the chips were fresh and piping hot. Self serve on the salt and vinegar so you can put as much or as little as you like. We returned Thursday for another meal here (my mum and I are gluten and dairy intolerant so finding places to eat out is always a struggle, once we find a place we tend to keep going back!) The gluten free chips are no extra cost and tasted amazing. We also had a gluten free sausage each which was also just as good as normal ones taste. Again everything piping hot and made fresh. Also had some gluten free vinegar made from red wine which they brought to our table for us to use. They have a wide variety of fish to choose from - normally haddock, cod and hake - and the catch of the day was freshly caught plaice from Looe Harbour. The menu is clearly marked as to which items can be ordered gluten free. Highly recommend this chip shop, we wish it was our local at home!

When friends of ours wanted to drive all the way to Looe on a recent trip to England for fish, I thought they were crazy. But after a beautiful day of browsing the most lovely shops, we stopped in here for lunch and I was blown away. The fish was so fresh and cooked to perfection. Not too much batter either, which is nice to be able to enjoy the fish itself. I was pleasantly surprised that they made their own tartar sauce which was delicious. Sad that people continue to feed the sea gulls right outside their shop - it only encourages their behaviour! Besides that, I really enjoyed our lunch and will miss that quality of seafood back home.

I have returned here many times and the quality relatively stays the same. Consistency of taste, portion size and location are all what makes this spot a regular/traditional lunch stop, while in Looe. If you are lucky enough to find a spot outside, under shelter from the Summer sun, then you will have a treat. Haddock and cod here are wonderfully meaty and textural. The chips are always abundantly served (even a small portion will leave you satisfied). Served in paper boxes. A stones throw from Ye Olde Salutation Inn and if you want to cross over the river, the restaurant is next to where you can board the ferry to East Looe.

I'm sorry to say this is the first negative review I have ever left and I don't like to do it, however I need to leave feedback that I hope will mean our experience won't be repeated for anyone else.

My husband and I ordered a cod and chips on 30th June 2024. Granted, England were playing in the Euros so the chefs and front of house staff seemed very distracted by this. No friendly greeting like you get in other places around Looe. We placed our order and then it came to us. My husband had a mouthful of his cod and could tell it wasn't right, and so he cut into the middle of his cod and it was raw. It was translucent, liquid poured out and slimy - it wouldn't flake at all so was undercooked. I am 22 weeks pregnant and checked mine, and luckily mine was cooked fine but we are relieved that I didn't eat the raw cod. However, if I was to criticise mine, the chips were quite soft and average and the batter was tough with not much flavour. I have had superior fish and chips in land which is a shame. Because my husband unfortunately had a bite of the raw fish, he spent the next day unwell. Thankfully he didn't consume more than he already had.

After discovering the undercooked centre, my husband therefore took his fish and chips up to the counter and asked the opinion of the staff who went to show the chef, came back and said "we will bring you a new one", so they absolutely agreed that the fish was indeed undercooked. There was no apology though which surely would be normal in this situation. Mistakes happen, it is how you deal with them.

However, the main complaint is what happened next. My husband waited another 20 minutes before his new cod and chips were brought out. We noticed all of the staff heading outside all together for breaks during this time so no wonder it took so long. Again, no apology received when his replacement meal was brought out.

My husband cut into the new portion of cod and to our disgust, the fish was again slimey, translucent and raw in the middle.

By this point, my husband had lost his appetite. The staff didn't seem to care and were few and far between at the front, so we left. A waste of two beautiful fillets of cod, and a waste of our money.

We were on our babymoon and were looking for to fish and chips by the sea. We really wish we had tried somewhere else now. We hope this review can lead to some changes because as I say, my husband became unwell and we do not wish this experience on anyone. The customer service, the attention to detail and how mistakes are handled needs to...

We had been to Catch many times over the years of coming to Looe and we are here several times a year and it was always amazing, last year something changed the batter was hard ,the chips were not the same and we had tried 3 times in all last year and on the 3rd time we spoke to the guy who fried the fish, he assured us to take a seat and our meal arrived, it was nice enough although he informed us it was all gluten free.....I don't have a problem with that if its not taste free too! I'm not gluten free but understand some people are. Today we went in catch to eat, oh my god..... we waited for our fish to be cooked which is great, love freshly cooked fish and chips but what a shame the chips were so hard and the portions sparse and inconsistant, the fishcake was dry, no flavour and hard dry bits of fish in it. The haddock was flat and hard! I ordered a coffee it was brought to our table I was not asked or offered sugar, so just as well I'm sweet enough! There were 4 woman and a man standing around behind the counter and at 1 point the 4 women were standing looking at us! Why? Were they waiting for me to ask if these were refried chips! As that's what they were like. We brought our food home as we didn't eat even half of it and I'm afraid to say I won't be going back. £20 something for fish n chips and fishcake n chips isn't cheap and even more so if it isnt nice. I think you need a rethink Catch, the Locals and regulars are Catching on,going elsewhere it's just not the...

As always when we're on holiday we eat here, this time however did dissapoint, we ordered on the screen which in it's self was really well displayed and easy to use, when we recieved our food then chips weren't salt or vinegar, the lady who was behind the till just pointed and said oh it's there. Normal I wouldn't moan about this but when ordering using said screen it makes you specify if you want it with salt and vinegar, and since it was cheesy chips(which did have a great amount of cheese on) because I had to salt and vinegar it, it then was just on the cheese and all the chip underneath then tasted bland and some didn't seem fully cooked. The pot of curry sauces seemed a tad small for the price but was very tasty. The main issue was the women behind the till was a rude, after just gesturing at the salt I then asked if I could have a bag as I made a joke out potential dropping it she just bluntly said ok and got a bag out but left it on her side of the counter and walked off to continue her conversation with the other staff, so after salting my chips and trying to close the boxes( slightly difficultly to do, probably just me though 😂) I then had to struggle to reach over the counter to grab the bag to put the food it to then look up and have the women just watch me from the door in the back. I know it was half hour before closing and maybe she just wanted to go home but I felt uncomfortable during the whole time I...
