Tried to visit here yesterday. We arrived and the sign said 'please wait to be seated', we could see an empty table so we waited..... and waited...... and waited. Must have waited for between 10 and 15 minutes and the server walked past us about 6 times without any acknowledgement whatsoever. We would have at least expected a smile and a 'I'll be with you as soon as I can', but nope nothing. We actually felt quite awkward waiting after a while. We could have easily been told they were very busy, and would see us as soon as possible, but they did not acknowledge us at all.
After a long wait, we found out they were doing breakfast only. We'd actually queued for lunch. Hence, why some communication would have been really helpful. We were offered the table for breakfast but politely declined as said we wanted some lunch. She then turned to the family behind us, as we still stood there and said 'we're out of breakfast' and turned them away. Well that can't be true as we'd literally just been offered the table!!
No idea what the food is like but the customer service is non existent. Don't bother. Stroll down the road to 'the coffee shop kitchen and bar', you'll be greeted with a smile, made to feel welcome and enjoy great, fresh food, at good prices! '.

Read moreI used to love The Golden Guinea in Looe and have fond memories of my visits from a few years ago. The place had a wonderful atmosphere, with the cosy feel of a traditional inn and interesting artifacts adorning the walls. The food felt homemade and hearty, exactly what you’d hope for in such a setting.
However, my recent visit a couple of weeks ago during a family holiday left me disappointed. The cosy ambiance has unfortunately been lost in an attempt to modernize the place. What drew me in this time was a board outside promoting their Sunday Roasts. I was thrilled to see that they offered a Vegan Wellington, so we booked a table for Sunday.
Unfortunately, the excitement didn’t last. When I inquired about the vegan option, I was informed that the roast potatoes were cooked in beef fat, making them unsuitable for me. To make matters worse, the vegetables were served together in a dish that included cauliflower cheese, which I also couldn’t eat. In the end, I was left with just a plate of chips and the Vegan Wellington, which was quite disappointing. I did raise my concerns with the staff, who apologised and kindly did not charge me for the meal.
I really hope that things improve by the time I visit again, as I’d love to see The Golden Guinea return to the charming place...
Read moreWe walked in, hoping to get a table for two on a Sunday afternoon- delighted that we were quickly welcomed and shown to our seats. The waitress was quick to take our drink orders, and was helpful in explaining the different menu options. We both ordered roasts, mine a large- the other, small; the difference being three extra potatoes and a little bit of extra meat. When the food arrived, bearing in mind I was feeling excited about the prospect of a Sunday Roast, I have to say it was very underwhelming in appearance. Unfortunately, nothing about the food was good. Let’s start with the important bit- the classic Yorkshire pudding. It looked like it had been ran over by a truck, and then cremated. We were both looking forward to the cauliflower cheese… well- the veg came out in a bowl, to share, and there was a measly floret of cauliflower, the size of a baby’s fist, sparingly covered in a bland cheese sauce. The meat reminded me of school dinners- no quality at all. The potatoes, hard, dry and tasteless- and we left with a film of salt on the roof of our mouths. Will not be returning any time soon. Didn’t take any photos as I was so...
