Hachapuri, Georgian cheese bread, made of sourdough, is excellent. It looks a bit different to how it is traditionally made, and with a selection of additions (i.e. bacon) slides towards pizza, but I am still going to come back and order it again!

A bit of a raised brow about a guy whom I could see washing the dishes -well, he didn't know how. Just dipped them once or twice under the running water and put it onto the drying rack. Hmmmm... I hope the owner reads this and makes sure hygene standards are trained. Also it is nice to see very young boys having a chance to work here, probably earning their first money. Some staff were so friendly, smiley, made sure we have everything we need.

No wi-fi. Steamed single windows. Live music advertised on posters. People coming in snd out buying bread, buns, etc. Excellent atmosphere and...

How blessed are we to have two bijou venues within walking distance of home. Have visited Old Cinema Laundrette lots of times but this was our first visit to Claypath Delicatessen. And what a Quality, Quirky, Quintessentially English evening it was in the company of Robyn Hitchcock esquire. Brilliant guitarist, sometime bizarre lyricist. We finally caught him after the Gateshead gig was cancelled the other year. An extra toilet would be great, perhaps a bucket in the back yard. Take a cushion if you're precious or infirm, and drink lots of Loweswater Gold, a drink to satisfy any palate. Very friendly, natural staff, will definitely return, the...

Disappointing dinner tonight. Ordered and 6pm and, after nudging, it took 1 hour for our starter (garlic bread) to arrive and another forty minutes for the pizza. When my nduja chicken pizza got to the table, it didn't have chicken on it. I queried and was told with a shrug that they had run out of chicken. That would have been nice to know 90 minutes ago when I paid full price for a chicken pizza! Had to then chase up the aoili we ordered too. Shame to have to say this about a local place, clearly the staff were rushed off their feet, but it's not nice to leave feeling you've had poor service and were ripped...

Quite disappointed. My friend had been here before and recommended it but this time we were both underwhelmed. I had the heritage tomato and mozzarella sandwich but there weren't enough tomatoes on it and the ratio of chewy sourdough to filling wasn't ideal. The mozzarella wasn't seasoned, the few bits of tomato didn't really have much flavour and it was just a bit meh. I've made better myself. For £9 I expected much much more. On top of that after ordering we waited 40 mins before we got our sandwiches. It wasn't even particularly busy.

Claypath Deli is in Durham. Great customer service by a young man who served me. I got a freshly done wholemeal Sourdough bread, still warm to touch and croissant a a very nice Cappuccino costing £9.10 I think the only downside is parking, cost £1 to park; ( i live out of area) but saying this I'm all for local independent buissness. Produce is so much better than a supermarket.

Like atmosphere? Fresh bread? Great Service? Little Independent coffee shops? Then do yourself a favour and get to Claypath Deli. It's definitely worth the walk up a very steep incline to get to one of the best coffee houses in the North. I'd also recommend getting food, the portions are very generous. Cheers, I look forward to my return visit.
