Decided to celebrate our daughter in law's 40th birthday, with a meal. It's been a while since we had a meal here, but thought it would be as good as our last visit. How wrong we were! Firstly we waited 20 minutes before I had to get the waiters attention to order pre meal drinks. The tables, although clean had a sticky residue all over them, which was disconcerting. The waiting staff in general seemed to be new and inexperienced, and didn't exude confidence . When our food eventually arrived my wife's salmon was overcooked and incredibly small for the cost of £15😮 She returned it to the kitchen, and told them she didn't want a replacement.😡 My pork ribs, although substantial in quantity reminded me of the pork ribs you buy in a supermarket, from the precooked or frozen aisle. Again, for £15 was not value for money. I thought I would have been served cooked from fresh pork ribs. In saying all this Claud (owner)was very attentive and I thought, a bit embarrassed at my wife's refusal in having a replacement. She was prepared to go hungary rather than risk of a further replacement that could again be unsatisfactory. We know that MedMex is a popular restaurant in Hornsea, but think that the restaurant should look again at what it's producing for the quality, service and prices charged, if they are to continue to be popular in the future. We certainly won't be returning to this...
Read moreMy brother and family have been coming here for 10 years and we've joined him on occasions but the food has gone downhill. My spaghetti bolognese was presented as 'spag bol' and when I saw it, it was mixed up like a toddler's dinner. There were holes where it looked as though thumbs had been in the bowl when carrying it as well as it hanging over the dish as if it had just been slapped in the bowl. This should have resembled a bowl of pasta with the sauce placed on top. Not mixed up to look like a bowl of baby food. Maybe it was because we'd 'complained' that initially the chef didn't have any cheese sauce for my brother's usual dish, however the head waiter put that right eventually. It was a surprise initially that a chef could not whip up a basic roux but he did eventually. For that experience, that proves he just didn't want to make one at first, couldn't be bothered. So the service for me has also deteriorated; its not just about the waiting staff. Very disappointed but at least it tasted better than it looked. If we hadn't had 3 children with us, we would have left it and walked out. Med mex, get your house in...
Read moreA review of two visits. The first lunchtime we shared some sides which were 3 for £15 and the nachos were really good. Enjoyed our cocktails. We then visited again early afternoon 2 days later. Ordered two fillet steaks (upgraded on the steak with wine offer) but two sirloins came out. We asked for medium temperature - they were pale, tasteless and unseasoned and rare in part. I had to add lots of salt & pepper. We had a bit of iceberg lettuce, I had 2 slices of cucumber but husband didn't have any. No salad dressing and one small mushroom with fries. The dog ended up with most of it. The young girl who served us on both occasions is a gem, really helpful and works so hard. She is a credit to the place. She makes good cocktails. She was getting grief from a regular who was asking for the music to be turned down in the restaurant area as he had the horse racing on in the bar. Someone came in and asked was there any dubai chocolate left and slammed the door on her exit when told it was all gone. The decor is lovely, it's dog friendly and drinks are nice but the food put us off going...
