Visited Beverley Cornish Bakery many times since opening as we live close by and we love the outlets in Devon and Dorset. Last 2 visits during week between Christmas and New Year and yesterday were disgusting, You could tell the four staff working, 3 x male and 1 x female, really didn't want to be there and it showed in the cleanliness of the tables etc - we sat next to an empty table with dirty pots and food on the table top, yes the pots were cleared but no sign of a wipedown with a cloth whatsoever in fact the hour we were in there not one table had a wipedown and it wasn't small specs or crumbs. It didn't help that the thin guy with gingerish hair/beard cleared the pots and then wandered about with an empty tray in his hand quite a lot - surely a cleaning cloth would be better? The next issue was the two guys behind the counter who looked quite similar, both well covered and wore glasses, whilst one wiped his nose with the back of his hand WHILST SERVING A CUSTOMER the other a couple of minutes later pulled his t shirt up to his face and wiped his face/nose on it!!! A year ago ALL cafes/restaurants wiped the tables and chairs with anti bac spray before anyone else could sit there due to covid etc - the Cornish Bakery in Beverley has gone above and beyond to forget all parts of this hygiene standard! Until standards rise to the levels of outlets in Devon and Dorset we will not set foot in there again and advise anyone else to think again. Totally disgusted with the place which is a shame as the pastries are excellent, but are they handled hygienically I very...
Read moreA Disappointing Visit My recent visit to Cornish Bakery left much to be desired, particularly concerning the quality of their beverages and the overall cleanliness of the establishment. I ordered a hot chocolate, hoping for a rich and comforting drink, but was met with something that tasted overwhelmingly of milk with very little chocolate flavor. To make matters worse, there was a distinct and unpleasant "off" taste, suggesting the milk might have been past its best. My companion's cappuccino suffered from a similar issue, also tasting of off milk. Beyond the disappointing drinks, the bakery itself felt rather chaotic. Despite being busy, it was evident that cleanliness was not a priority, contributing to a less-than-pleasant atmosphere. Overall, the experience at Cornish Bakery was quite poor due to the subpar quality of the drinks and the lack of attention to cleanliness. I would be hesitant to recommend it based...
Read moreThis is a lovely bakery in the centre of Beverley, a lovely and very pretty market town in the Riding of East Yorkshire. When I am in town visiting relatives, this is my go-to spot for a morning coffee and pastry.
The cappuccini are properly made (not a watery slurry). I do appreciate the fact that they've been trained well. The pasties are delicious and a good size. I've had a few of the sweet variety as well as some of the savoury. All delicious. You won't be disappointed.
My photos are from a few recent visits in Sept and Nov 2023.
The reason I gave a 4 out of 5 for service is not because of the serving girls ability or attitude, because that has always been excellent, but for the company's ethos of not taking cash any more. In my opinion, a big mistake with a bakery/cafe of this type. I'm a strong supporter the ''Don't Kill Cash'' movement.
Highly recommended cafe/bakery in Beverley,...
