Kavanagh’s is centrally located in Beverley so very handy indeed. It has an attractive traditional frontage and some tables are available outside. Interior seating is on two floors. The décor is Agatha Christy traditional but comfortable too. The establishment is popular and I was glad we had booked in advance for afternoon tea because it was quite full by 1.30 pm on a Tuesday. The afternoon tea was excellent. The tea itself was good quality and was served in china cups. You can have refills. We did but we were “forgotten” and had to good downstairs and ask for a refill. It came very quickly with an apology but it would have been better if someone had bothered to check upstairs. This was really the only negative. We were made welcome and, apart from the refill request, the service was efficient and friendly. You get four different types of sandwiches and all were tasty. We particularly liked the egg mayo and the coronation chicken. The three cakes we each received were moist and enjoyable. No problems either with the very good fruit scones, clotted cream and strawberry jam. I can certainly recommend the afternoon tea. All in all,...
Read moreWe went for afternoon tea yesterday, we booked for 4 people but only 3 afternoon teas as was taking a 2 year old, who does not need her own… (standard afternoon teas) ended up getting the bill and being charged for 4 luxury afternoon teas. We only had 2 serving stands on the table but got told one was for one person, and the other for 2 people so thought nothing of it. When paying the bill we told the staff that’s not what we had ordered nor received but they were adamant that’s what we booked even though we know it wasn’t. Not one to leave a bad review, however, after being charged double for what was meant to be a nice afternoon out to celebrate our nannas birthday, we can’t help but feel like we have been robbed and want to make people aware to triple check everything they order here as we knew what we ordered. Yet still got charged double, £40 for each serving stand, hate to say it but it was just daylight robbery. Will not...
Read moreWe came to this place for lunch and ordered 2 sandwiches and 2 teas.
The green tea was excellent and usually in other places green tea ends up a bit poor so I was very happy it tasted perfect. Very smooth taste and not over brewed.
The staff were really friendly and happy having a bit of banter.
I had the coronation sandwich on white, they had nuts in which changed the texture of the sandwich towards a bit of a negative. Probably the first place to add nut that I've been to, I'd rather cut out the nuts. The flavour was average, the bread was nice.
The sign on the door said cash only so we went to the bank but when paying they had a card machine so can't decide on that one, I recommend been prepared and get cash just in case.
It was very busy which suggests it's good. We have only been once but would recommend you try it...
