Central 42 — Restaurant in Great Britain

Probably best described as a service catastrophe! The restaurant was busy and we were seated upstairs near a large party of about 20 who were still being seated and ordering when we placed our order, however about 45 minutes later the large party were served and we had to ask what was happening with our food order? The staff apologised and offered another drink as an apology and within a couple of minutes our salad mains arrived. We then had to ask for a second napkin as there was only one on the table and then chase up the fries that were part of the order. The steak and chicken salads were very nice, but many would at this stage probably not leave a tip? We accepted with the staff that they were busy but then the cherry on the top occurred when I asked one of our waitresses to pay by card and if she could change a £10 note to £5's? Not a problem until she only brought one £5 with a rather large assumption it was a tip???? We are still gob smacked and are divided in our opinions? My wife is all for raising all this with management and I am for moving on as it was a tip after all. I have to say, it is a first in all the restaurants around the world I have...

We have been here before and it was lovely, however, we came today and were greeted fine, served quickly by lovely staff too, but when the sharing bread and oil came it was 2 big bottles of olive oil and balsamic vinegar with the breads and olives, I’ve never known this and after drizzling that into the bread it was a sodden mess, usually there are bowls with it in which is a lot nicer and easier. The starter came with the main too, my main was the chicken and bacon mayo wrap and chips, my meal looked very nice but the bacon was full of fat which made it awful. It put me off the rest after having to dissect it to take it all out. My friend requested no mushrooms with her rump steak sandwich, but did want the onions. It arrived with mushrooms and no onions, the lovely staff who served us did offer to go change it and said she did tell them on the slip but at the time my friend hadn’t realised it didn’t have onions in and said its ok, she would take them out, so they had clearly got it the wrong way round. One of the best meals I have had in my entire life. I was disappointed whilst in Benidorm a couple of weeks ago that there were no authentic Spanish tapas restaurants anywhere but funnily enough a modest little joint in Beverley satisfied a craving that even Spain couldn’t 😂

The patatas bravas with queso manchego were phenomenal as was the duck breast, koftas and calamari. It’s very rare that I go out for food and don’t have a single complaint but I genuinely didn’t at Central 42. Everything was cooked just right and seasoned perfectly. Even the dressings and sauces were out of this world.

We paid £25 for 4 tapas and 2 glasses of red. For the level of quality, you really can’t fault the price at all! Also less than £25 for a litre of the house red which was lovely.

The waitresses were super friendly, helpful and chatty. They didn’t seem stressed and erratic like they do in a lot of places and they all seemed to get on really well with each other which made the atmosphere really pleasant.
