Disappointing birthday meal and chaotic organisation Very sad to give this poor review as we have been local customers of this Indian for over 30 years, but the last visit was so ridiculous it warranted commenting. A birthday meal booked well in advance for 7pm for 9 friends was spoiled from arrival. It was Saturday races day and it was evident about 4 large groups of race goers had descended on the restaurant just before we arrived. We couldn’t see any table set up for our group and were told they still needed to arrange the tables for us( even though a large group of guys had just seated themselves on a table that looked suspiciously like it could have been ours). We were also told on arrival that they had staff shortages of a chef; a waitress and a driver ( for takeaway food) who hadn’t turned in…so were very overstretched. As most of our party were arriving a waitress called us over and had basically pushed 2 circular table together…which resulted in some of us having to sit back to back and was not ideal..so we had to wait further until they arranged a rectangular table for us. Eventually we were all seated and requested popadoms. These arrived reasonably quickly and so far ok…although we were realising that service was not going to be good under the circumstances. But we did appreciate that it was not the waitresses fault. So we received menus and it took an unbelievable hour and a half (8.30pm) until our meal orders were finally taken…in which time the large groups of race goers were slowly brought their food - but even several smaller tables who arrived well after us had ordered eaten and even left! At the point of ordering I requested if we could have some complimentary popadoms to keep us going…as by this time we had all spent lots at the bar and some were starving. It was disappointing that we were given one popadom each and told we see only allowed 1 complimentary pickle tray between all 9 of us! Wow! I was paying inflated prices of £6.60 for each pint of cider whilst waiting excessive time for our order taking…along with the rest of the party buying much more drink than we really wanted…the restaurant earned a handsome amount of profit from us…to be so stingy after all that time. Food finally arrived at 9.10 pm…over 2 hours after our table booking and although everyone was happy with their dishes, we were slightly past eating and bloated from drinks.! We had seen many other diners complete their meals who arrived after us and a continual stream of takeaway orders were also being cooked to order. Under the circumstances the restaurant should have organised themselves better and perhaps turned away some takeaway orders or other diners as they obviously could not cope and we witnessed many complaints. Other tables and large groups were definitely prioritised over our booking and no concessions were made for the appalling time it took to provide food. There was no duty to booked customers and it seemed mostly about volume rather than service. Unfortunately this experience will make us think twice for another booking…so not a great way to treat the...
Read moreFor quite some time, I have of the opinion that the Akash offers the best 'Indian' food in Beverley. I have been there on a number of occasions and have always been fully satisfied, both with what I've eaten and the service I've received. Tonight, sadly, my opinion has changed. A friend and I have just had a meal there and encountered the poorest service that I've ever experienced. When we arrived, there were just four other occupied tables and we were seated immediately and given menus. The waitress took over fifteen minutes to ask us if we'd like drinks and if we'd made our choices. We placed our orders and then waited twenty minutes more to get our drinks. Our poppadoms and pickle tray starter then took another twenty minutes. The waitress spent most of the time we were there chatting to a couple of fellas at a table at one end of the restaurant. She seemed oblivious to other diners. No one else was approached to see if they needed any further drinks, wanted the bill, etc. A number of people had to go up to the counter to request things. In the meantime, the waitress stood chatting at the same table as mentioned before. We finally got our mains after approximately two hours after we'd arrived at the restaurant. The waitress did apologise and mentioned something about the tandoori chef having issues. Our curries had clearly been sat under a heat lamp for quite some time - presumably waiting for our naan breads to be done. Most of the food was only just warm enough and my curry had skinned over. Once we'd eaten our food which, to be fair, was quite tasty, we got up and approached the counter for our bill. Another apology followed, plus the compensation of an extra After-Eight each. We left, having paid our bill, well over three hours after we'd first come in. Good job we didn't order starters after our poppadoms - it'd have been midnight before we escaped. I shudder to think what things might be like on a busy Friday or Saturday evening with every table occupied. This wasn't about a tandoori chef having issues, it was mostly about very poor customer service bordering on...
Read moreBeen going here a while now for takeaway collection. Never great, but there's not many options in Beverley and the food is quite good. Last night was an absolute nightmare. Ordered at 5.30pm to collect 45 minutes later. So we think they must be busy? We get there on time and was asked to wait. There's 3 tables eating so hardly busy. 15 minutes later still waiting and after she checked in the kitchen said it's nearly ready and it will be 2 minutes, (this turns out to be a lie). Meanwhile another couple walk in and then walk out after being ignored for 10 minutes. A further 10 minutes later the other woman comes out of the kitchen, what was the name she asks? I tell her and she puts her head in her hands and it's obvious they haven't done it. Sorry she says. No offer to sort something out. They could have cooked us another meal in the time we sat waiting. So I ask for my money back and we try and find something else at 7pm on a Saturday. Bloody no chance. I wouldn't mind, but they wasn't even busy. The restaurant is freezing, seat covers look like they are about 20 years old. I'm amazed they are still in business. I don't know who has given them good reviews, but on my previous experiences I find it hard to belive these are genuine. They have now lost 2 regular customers. Sorry, we...
