Always walking past this café it looked lovely but was met with extremely disappointing circumstances.
A group of my friends and I went on a sunday morning and were told we couldn't order some of our choices as there was only one lady working that shift which was fair enough.
She then takes all our orders and MASSIVELY overcharged multiple of us. I ordered a cheese omelette, falafel wrap, bottle of coke and iced coffee which should've came to just under £15, and when the lady saw me pull out a £20 note she told me "We'll just call it £20." My friend also ordered a cheeseburger and iced coffee which should've totalled £7.50 but she charged him £15! After realising this we went back to the lady and politely told her she has overcharged us. Her attitude changed tremendously and she started denying this and told us to wait until she was finished with our food.
All our food arrived very half-arsed and not worth the expensive pricing. Even though my friend and I who complained had ordered first, we were served last and kept waiting 25 minutes for our meals, long after everyone else had actually finished their meals. Feel like this was done purposely as we had initially complained
We then went inside and asked for our change in which she had originally overpriced us for and become furious and visibly annoyed raising her voice at us for even suggesting so. She added my order up in front of me, making up increased prices in front of me, when the menu and pricing was literally right next to her. She starts gaslighting me telling me I never handed her a £20 and she would not of charged me this amount, when many people witnessed it happen. She loudly sighs and hands me back £3... when she worked out it she should've owed me £5 in return. She also tried to argue with me that my bottle of coke was £4... When the largest coffee they sell comes to £2.70...
Overall would definitely NOT recommend coming here, you will be overcharged, met with very rude staff and left unsatisfied by the...
Read moreWas very excited to go to the cafe. In recent years, the food has been outstanding and the staff was friendly. Today we came back for a breakfast after not going for 2 years. I was seriously disappointed with the outcome of each element of going to the cafe. The staff member was rude and rushed me to order which made me feel uncomfortable. Upon ordering, we tried to find a table however the tables were dirty, sticky and full of left over plates. We finally found a seat outside. The time it took to receive the food was not bad. The food was visually unappealing. The bacon was extremely fatty, tasted like cardboard and was seriously bland. The sausages were cheap and over cooked. The beans were cold, and the chips were undercooked. The chef forgot to add my fried slice. Instead of putting it on a plate and brining it to me, instead the chef decided to just pick the fried slice up with tongs and walk it over to me and just dump it on top of my food which is unhygienic and plain rude. The food is extremely overpriced. £4.00 for a bacon baguette is a joke when you only get 2 rashers of bacon FULL of fat. Overall our cost was £18 for 2 drinks, 1 full English and a bacon baguette. Prices are way to high for extremely poor food. “Poor” is the nicest word I can actually think of for the food. Very disappointed, this place used to be so good and great value for money. Now it seems deprived and lost. Will not...
Read moreGLASS IN THE FOOD!!!!!! Today, I visited the cafe with my son and partner for brunch. I ordered toast with avocado, pesto, poached eggs, and two extra black puddings, while my son had fish fingers with chips, and my partner ordered mashed eggs on toast. After a few bites into my meal, I felt something sharp in my mouth while chewing a piece of toast with egg. I immediately stopped and, to my shock, found a 4x3 mm piece of glass in my mouth. Thankfully, neither my son’s nor my partner’s meals contained glass. When I brought this to the staff's attention, they confirmed that something had broken in the kitchen but had not paused service or taken necessary safety measures to ensure no glass entered any food. Apologizing, they simply offered me a replacement, which I accepted because I was still hungry. However, upon receiving the replacement dish, I again noticed a glass-like sensation while chewing, suggesting that the avocado pesto or another component may have been contaminated. The kitchen staff apologized again and refunded the specific dish, but this incident has left me shaken and concerned for the safety practices at Elm Grove Cafe. I already sent the complaint to the city council email and will definitely complain to all related...
